After our piece on possible alternatives to the union jack in the event of Scottish independence, many readers decided to design their own.
The previous Magazine article showcased designs that flag experts and enthusiasts, known as vexillologists, came up with. Here are 25 readers' designs in response.
We were deluged by flags which kept the shapes in the current union jack but changed the colours. Some readers gave a political commentary on the difficult nature of a union.
This is the only one that I find mildly pleasing.
-
The one with the Union Jack and old glory is very nice get rid of the maple leaf and kangaroo/kiwi though.
Darren Moss's flag contained a visual joke that most laymen would struggle to decipher at first glance. "Inspired by the general trend of devolution," he says.
Well then.
Kris Taylor, aged 32 ½, appears to have been inspired by the spirit of Jackson Pollock in his composition entitled My New Flag.
Edited by Miles Of Blood: 12/6/2013 10:03:54 PMHoly shiiiii- Lonepaul, you're still here!? OT: I like the option where Scotland admits it's not going to leave. The only reason that they will (If they do) is because they stupidly allowed 16/17 year olds to vote in the independence vote. Looking back, would I have allowed myself and my friends the vote at 16/17 if I were the government, nope. I fear there will be a lot of misinformation floating about regarding Scottish Independence and fear people will just jump at it for the lols without seriously looking at what will happen. Also, this one probably for me if anything: http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/71534000/jpg/_71534906_350727.jpg or http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/71567000/jpg/_71567155_726a3eda-f175-49a3-ba02-e4db0d736859.jpg EDIT: Reading this back, I see I sound like a 12 year old maturing through puberty and peaking at the end of my argument. Bleh, I'm a bit rusty, getting back into the saddle of this B.net posting game.

The one about "devolution" is just dumb. It implies that evolution leads towards something. . .it doesn't. Are you guys seriously considering this?

Number five is wonderfully clean.

ZIZ IZ BRITIN
-
The multi-cultural flag rustled my jimmies. I'm all for people coming to live here, but they're coming to live in Britain. Not some amalgamised ambiguity of a nation.
-
Is this a joke?
-
I honestly think Kieron George's flag is pretty awesome. What with its all encompassing symbolism of what remains of the empire that came closest to world domination.
-
I'm digging that Anglo Saxon one
-
The red one with yellow griffin is te best IMO. First two and last two seemed like a joke and wasn't taken seriously.

Sheeeeeiit.

The fourth-to-last isn't bad, if you remove the animals from the top.
-
The black and red one with the crown in the centre would be palatable, without the crown superimposed that is. It looks very tacky and minor nationy. We should still keep the flag and probably will <.< but if we had to choose a new one that is the least visually offensive. The rest seem to have been hand made by Slaanesh himself.

I thought it was cool how it was D:

that bright rainbow Union Jack it opens up with... oh lawl.
