Halo Lore Question

Did the Forerunners ever leave The Milky Way? If the could travel across the galaxy itself, traveling to other galaxies is not far fetched.

Yes. They went to the LMC twice (One group settled there in a rather odd way) and both Arks were built outside the Galaxy.
