Okay so I'm seeing a lot of no manual space flight and yet players are suppossed to develop an affection for our crafts. They act as storage and signal our joining friends while exploring Destiny's worlds but not much else has really come to the surface video wise.
Now I don't expect to fly from Earth to Mars in real time like other space sim games. When ships were announced for Destiny back in March I got the image of Reach's Long Night Of Solance level where the Sabre was featured. I could see the ship and I could see myself flying it and that really opened a lot of imagination on where Bungie could take us all.
But that voyage now sounds like a quick time event and really that is both depressing and sucks the adventure out of the room for hopeful star pilots. Like all things Destiny until the game ships I really don't know what the final product is but the loss of the manual control of space ships our horses and extensions of our characters is a heavy loss to the imaginative players pining for this feature in some scope.
For me when I saw the footage from the Roghnut I felt great hope for our space ships. I could easily see them flying through the star map like our Falcons did in Forge World. So Bungie Im still holding out on manual flight for the Star Ships. The designs I've seen from your art department scream for them to live and fly rather than act as some ornament.
Hopefully it's not too late and those designs take to the stars driven by players rather than over scripted QuickTime.

I agree. They could make it that you have one spot to fly & dog fight at the reef or I would like to fly real time shooting down squadrons of vex, cabal & fallen while dodging meteoroids & shooting them into little bits, flying around asteroids. We could fly into the atmosphere & on Mars & have to dodge those big ships gun turrets & bunkers trying to blast you from the sky that are the useless eyecandy cabal backdrops at the moment. I'd love to be able to watch a guardians ship being blown to bits while I below are fighting away. you can only 'land' where where you usually spawn & you could have a 'public event' blowing up the hive spires being sent to the earth from the moon. I think this is an incredibly vast & ambitious idea. It could be great!

Glorified loading screen=what our ships are. We need space travel/Dogfighting for destiny 2. Mark my words come next year, it will be the year of the space sim. No mans sky, star citizen, eve valkyrie, star wars battlefront and elite: dangerous(for console), will pave the way. Now it's up to bungie to listen to us space shooter genre fans or not. Could you imagine, this game franchise will then become a FPSMMORPG space sim and directly compete with star citizen, a game that will redefine a new genre: life sim.
sucks the adventure out of the room for hopeful star pilots.
You're not a star pilot though, you're a Guardian. If they allowed in-atmosphere flight, it would negatively impact exploration in Destiny. Say there is some weapon hidden on the top of some mountain, and you have to trek up some overgrown trail to reach the summit. That could all be skipped if you can just fly up to the top. So the only place left to allow flight is in orbit around planets or other objects. But think about how sterile an environment that is. Sure the background will change, depending on where you are, but space is otherwise empty. There are no paths to follow, doors to unlock, treasures to find. The only activity of any real entertainment value would be dog fights. Now sure, a dog fight would be fun once or twice, but I don't think it's something people would end up going back to much. Not when there's a planet below you with loot to find.

Omg bro i thought i was the only one who thought about this!
-
Didn't they say it would be a place to show off achievements and trophies as well as something to personalize back when they announced it in a game informer article? Missed opportunities...

The past... The disappointment...

honestly i couldnt care either way but if nobody sees it, or you can't pilot it what is the point of the customization? tbh i say hold your shit until the games out. Bungie sucked the life out of me with each halo release but hopefully with Activision lighting a fire under their asses a bit they are looking to perform. They are with a major company already sporting multiple blockbusters so no offense Bungie but you got something to prove when it comes to me, my friends, and 9/10 players i run into online. Which are your most dedicated fans, say what you want, 5-7 hours a day for 3-4 years I know my shit, and to the company they work for. With next gen consoles we will have a dozen new awesome interactive and graphically stunning games each year and if this 10 year game aint gripping bungie has wasted a lot of everyones time no more so then their own. space flight in or not, we should all be impressed from day 1 to year 5 at the least.

Destiny is not a space combat sim ... if you are looking for one then I suggest go play eve online or wait for star citizen ... destiny is a FPS-MMO so you will be on land
-
I couldn't agree with u more.
-
Go play star citizen. It let's you fly tour space ship and land on planets.also you can shoot things in space and on ground.
-
If you want to fly a ship play retro space invaders brah, this in an FPS game.
-
The ship is also a show piece for the hangar a social area of destiny to show off all you have earned and found
-
I'm gonna be less than 100% pleased w/Destiny if I cannot pilot my ship in SOME WAY.
