Big guns are great but I like a good medium range rifle with plenty of ammo.

Get some armor penetrator rounds, Devil Walkers dying everywhere.

No the new armor piercing explosive rounds they have.

Is there a .50 cartridge for automatic assault rifles, or are there only ones for semi-auto and single-fire rifles.

Idk about full auto but it could be made. Their is the Beowulf round. Their are conversion kits for AR-15's to make them into semi auto .50 bmg rifles. So if you designed the lower your self and modified the seer so that it was full auto and cut the barrel down by about a foot you would have a full auto .50 bmg assault rifle.
