Alec approached the ship with caution, carrying the Fallen Captains corpse on his shoulder. Before he began his search of the vessel, he first made a pile out of the fallen corpses, sticking a pipe in the center of it with a Fallen Captains cape tied to it like a flag. Alec then began to inspect the ship.
The hull of the ship was badly damaged, partially melted from the energy based weapon that probably brought it down. The Fallen had been collecting items of interest from the inside. However, the inside of the ship was pretty barren; in fact, it looked like it had hardly been used. The gun racks were empty, no provisions, no life support, and air lock systems wasn't working, and the whole thing looked like a Junker to begin with.
Alec found the crew of the ship, all dead. Amateurs really, weren't even armed, looked like they were transporting something special though. A hidden compartment was under the floor panels near the cockpit. Alec also found tracks of an additional Fallen Dreg outside, meaning there was nine. Its tracks lead east, heavier than ordinary Dreg tracks, must have had some additional weight when it left.
After Alec finished looking around the ship, he started collecting the Fallens gear. Weapons that Alec had no clue how to use that the Fallen dropped, tools from the ship, and a weird glowing object...looked like a...it couldn't be. Alec had found a cube of rare Red Glimmer, valued at over five-hundred thousand credits, but where'd it come from? Suddenly, Alec heard a noise outside; he drew his weapon from its holster.
Alec turned the corner of the doorway into the ship out into the ship grave yard, a man stood outside, looking at the dead Fallen. He suddenly noticed Alec.
"Wait, wait, wait," Cried the man. "Don't shoot! I'm not armed! I was just in the area, saw the crash and..."
Before Alec could respond, Simons showed up in a ship.
"Hey," Simons said over the intercom. "Don't move, under law of the city!"
The man panicked, he tried to run, but didn't get far. The ship circled around, cornering him. Two figures dropped down out of the ship and grabbed him; Alec could see they weren't very friendly. The ship came around and Simons ordered Alec to grab his junk and get on.
With everyone on board and the loot secured, they rocket off. Alec now had a good look at the five Mercs with Simons. They had the FWC emblem branded into their necks, all wore the same mask, all had on red trench coats, they all appeared to be Warlocks. One packed a fusion SMG, another sat there polishing a revolver, the other three just sat there. One spoke to Alec.
"So," The Merc started. "You’re Alec Blackwater? Don’t look like much. Read your file, before it got erased. Your nothing special, your wife though, what a looker."
He had Alec’s attention.
"Tell me Alec," The Merc continued. "How does it feel to be a widower? I mean, shoot, how you could not protect her, I mean-"
"Shut up!" Simons yelled as he came out of the cockpit.
"No, no," The Merc protested, tacking off his helmet. "I'm going to finish. I mean, if I had a nice piece of tail like that, I'd of made sure she was safe. I may have had to smack her around, but she'd-"
Alec had heard enough, he punched the Merc right in the nose, crushing it. His head jerked back, his skull breaking against the side of the ship. Blood poured from his broken nose.
"Idiot," Said Simons. "Alec, throw him off the back."
Alec dragged him to the back of the ship, opening the back, and then throwing out. They were pretty high up, at least one-thousand feet. The body vanished into the wastelands.
Simons was talking to the man, asking him what he saw. Simons wasn't looking very happy with what he was hearing. He spoke to the Mercs briefly then went over to Alec.
"Alec," Simons started to say. "We have a problem. This guy here, he can’t go back to the city. He's....not a good guy. Take him to the back and deal with him."
Alec looked at the man, he couldn't have been more than thirty, and his clothes suggest that they were made from wild cotton, and he didn't know how to read, he wasn't a threat, he was just a guy looking for his next meal. Simons told the man to go stand at the back, near the door.
"Let him go." Alec said.
"What?" Simons responded surprised.
"You heard me." Alec responded.
"You're not in charge here." Simons responded.
The four remaining Mercs stood up.
"Easy there, big guy." One Merc said, placing his hand on his Fusion smg.
Alec wasn't intimidated; he placed his hand on his own fire arm.
"Don't rock the boat," Simons said.
The man started to walk back towards the cockpit, only to be shot by the Merc with a revolver. His body fell out the back, Alec watched as it plummeted to the bottom.
"Now," Simons started to say. "Let’s all calm down..."
Alec wasn't calm anymore; he drew his sidearm and opened fire, putting holes in the heads of two of the mercenaries. The Merc with the Fusion sub-machine-gun returned fire, only for the firearm to jam. The other Merc was shot in the chest, a hole the size of an orange replaced where his heart once was. Simons took cover behind one of the bodies, cursing under his breath.
"Don't do this Alec!" Simons yelled. "You'll be hunted like a mad dog if you do!"
Alec wasn't about to wait around, he pulled the pin on a frag and threw it at the last Merc. The grenade struck the Merc on the face, the smg slid towards Alec, which he picked up. Alec slung the smg around him, and dove out the back.
"Alec!" Simons yelled as the grenade exploded.
The ship swayed violently, but didn't crash, it continued its course. Alec sailed towards the earth below, he was too high, he had to slow down, but it was too late. The ground broke Alecs fall.
Once again, darkness, but Alec could hear a voice, faint, but it was a voice. It was coming from his built in radio.
"Alec," The voice said, it was female. "If you can hear this, get back to the city, but don't get in through the main entrance, use the sewer entrance into the slums. Good luck."
Alec dug himself out of the dirt, like a zombie out of a grave. He stood up and looked around. The cities lights, he could see them in the distance. It was a good few miles; he could just hoof it on foot. The sewer entrance had a bio scanner on it, to ensure only human life forms could use it. The sewers were old, dating as far back as the twentieth century, security turrets monitored the corridors. Alec found the entrance to the surface, below the slums. Alec did a quick inventory; he had his knife, pistol, the fusion smg (damaged), and the red glimmer. Alec made the climb to the surface. Once up top, he decided it was time to find Whisk.
