What if the Destiny sequels are just expansions?

Got the idea from Sledgehammer73's post, I was thinking if his theory is right and we get to take everything from one game to the next throughout the decade long span of Destiny, would it really make sense for them to redesign everything and essentially have us start over? I think about it this way; lets say you get to the cap in Destiny, and then they release Destiny2 or whatever it will be called, with all new graphics and more locations and new enemies the whole nine yards. Personally I would want to start anew to get the full experience of everything that was added into the second game for low lvls that wasn't in one. However, if Destiny2 was a huge expansion that added new content for higher levels, I think it would be more rewarding. That way new players could still start at the same place we all did to experience what I'm sure will be a great first title, and those that have been on board since the beginning have new frontiers to explore and get a seamless transition with characters they've grown to love to a whole new games worth of content. Sorry for the text wall but I believe it was necessary for my point. Let me know what you think.

  • I think that this would be an awesome way build the Destiny universe. As it stands we're looking at a decent number of large locations spanning multiple 'planets'. If each expansion added to the universe on several scales it would become a truly epic environment. What I mean by scales is not just adding new locations but new 'planets' as well as expanding existing environments. One flaw in this theory though is that if (see when) the plot progresses in the future installments, what happens if things in the environment change drastically. As an example: At the climax of Destiny 1 there is a major assault on the last city that destroys a noticeable chunk of the city. For those of us that have lived through it, Destiny 2 would include the scars of this assault. However, for a new player/character, there would be no justification for the damage as they hadn't progressed through that plot arc yet. I'm sure that there are ways to get around this (clever writing/development shenanigans, etc). Could be tricky though. For the record though, I REALLY like this idea.
