Modern Warfare 2 has to be the Stupidest Game I've Ever Played.

I was just reflecting on the series when I realized how absolutely dumb it was that this game has a 94 percent on Metacritic. I mean, I can respect others opinions, and if you like it I won't really hold it against you, but from a content point of view, it's just lacking so much. What made this game so highly praised? The campaign was microscopic in length, the multiplayer was almost completely broken and the Spec Ops missions are the only thing with actual substance- and even then they're just side missions. Was it just people buying into the hype because of a trailer featuring lots of explosions and mainstream rap? Of course there's too many lurking variables to make any sort of legitimate conclusion, but... I don't know. What about you guys? Best/worst CoD? Stupidest/least stupid game? Thoughts on MW2 as a whole?

  • I mostly liked it because the maps were so much better, the guns were still fresher and fun to use. Mostly the maps though thy were so much better than MW3 BO and BO2

  • I remember the hype for this; it really set the stage for the future titles with custom kill streaks and the expanded CaC.

  • In the campaign of mw3 when I heard "kamarov" i was like. Like kamarov, makorov, kamarov, makorov. Something's not right here. 15 minutes later I scream into my mike, "I TOLD YOU SO, AND NOW SOAP'S DEAD!"

    • I used to love MW2. It was the first CoD I ever owned with online capabilities so that might have made all the difference. Playing it a couple years later, it's not nearly as great as it used to be to me. I'm not sure what happened. I would say that MW3 is the worst in the franchise and BO2 is the best.

    • Call of Duty 4 reinvigorated what had become a dull and lifeless FPS franchise. It was one of my favorite games back in 07 and I enjoyed it immensely. And then Modern Warfare 2 happened. MW2 was the game that single-handedly killed my interest in the series. The campaign was basically a Michael Bay movie on steroids and the multiplayer was a poorly balanced, easily-exploitable piece of monkey dung with some of the worst map design I've ever seen in a video game. I don't understand how it got the praise it did.

    • It really is stupid. It has the AUG listed under "Light Machine Guns", the FAMAS listed under "Assault Rifles", the P90 listed under "Sub Machine Guns", the Tar-21 listed under "Assault Rifles", and the F2000 listed under "Assault Rifles". What the hell? Just make another category for the bullpup rifles instead of putting them into categories they do not fall under based solely on their looks.

      • MW2 was the really the last CoD multiplayer that allowed strategy and variety in gameplay. BlOps sort of had remnants of it, but wasn't the same. Although the best matches were actually the hacked ones with bottomless mag on so grenade launchers were full auto and the AC-130's largest cannon fired as fast as its smallest.

        • The game lived up to its hype and it still does for me. The campaign kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time because I love the Modern Warfare series. After playing CoD 4 for 2 years, I was so excited about MW2. I watched gameplay, reveal videos, and other stuff weeks before MW2's launch. I got the game a week after release and have been playing it ever since. It also brought a lot of new stuff to the CoD franchise like customizable killstreaks, way more in-depth Custom Loadouts, Titles/emblems to show off, more attachments for weapons, more equipment, and had way more weapons than any other CoD game at the time. The game also had so many different play styles that you can take and that's why I liked it. MW2 is still my favorite CoD to this day and I still play it daily. The game has a special charm to it that other CoD games other than CoD 4 don't have.

You had to play it in 2009/2010 to get why. Coming from COD 4/WAW so many things were new and cool in MW2. A few I can think of are multiple attachments on your weapon (Bling Pro), custom killstreaks (Where before it was only UAV/Airstrike/Helicopter or Recon Plane/Artillery/Dogs, now we had things like the AC130, Harriers, Care Packages, Tactical Nuke, etc...), new attachments like the thermal scope, underslung shotgun, and the suppressor for snipers/lmgs, and the memorable campaign (Ill never forget the white house run to the roof at the end of the ranger missions or Shepards betrayal and killing of Ghost and Roach). In my opinion anyway its the last time a COD title had some serious innovation compared to its predecessors.

              • Any FFA game you got into was filled with some guy boosting for nukes... so the game would end about 3 minutes in. Friggin' ridiculous.

When I first got it, I was hoping for something similar to CoD4. I was wrong. IMO from then on the CoD franchise went downhill. Multiplayer was completely unbalanced. Campaign was too short. The only nice addition was Spec Ops.

Despite being so completely broken (I'm looking at you, noobtube/OMA combo), it still manages to be extremely enjoyable for me. I also loved the campaign.

                • Alot better than MW3 though. MW2 did have it's good things, like spec ops co-op missions (Like the AC-13) and just the multiplayer being fun. Though CoD4 is superior, easily

                  • MW2 has the best multiplayer out of all the CoD games, still enjoyable for me. Spec-ops and campaign were not very interesting to me, but the multiplayer and community was fun. Only Call of Duty I really enjoyed and still do today other than World at war.

                    • Eh all CoD's suck. But as to it having a high score on metacritic all you need to know is that its a big name title. As long as its a big name and has the money behind it, it wont fail.

                        • The campaign was awesome but short, that's not a bad thing. Some campaigns have too much padding so I'm glad that's not the case.
