That flow chart unfortunately leaves out the entire peer review process after the 'communicate results' step.

How is the 'current' peer review process a joke? How does it differ from the peer review process of any other era?

Edited by dazarobbo: 8/8/2013 11:39:56 AMFor starters, in academia it's inherently competitive rather than inclusive/cooperative, since editors of journals can only select so many to be included in the next edition, which is rather difficult when authors want colleagues in the same field to evaluate their work. This is also the problem I face later this year when I try to have my paper published in [url=http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/RecentIssue.jsp?punumber=4236]one of IEEE's journals[/url].
