The scientific method requires certain elements to be determine if something is true, exists, etc. Faith-based religion skips many of these steps, thus is not compatible with the scientific method. If you're going to assert, with any degree of certainty, that your deity exists [or is even the "right" one], then you have not followed the scientific method.
