You can make some guy named John the head of the 117th Brigade in the New Monarchy army. Have someone put a gun to someone else's head and have them say "were it so easy". Have some guy high on pain meds in a military hospital who spews nonsense, not the least of which is "frogblast the ventcore!" etc. etc.

'twas an example of how to subtlety reference something without its being direct enough to get sued. The same principle applies.
