One of my favorites, from Medieval II Total War: You attack a faction, wage a years-long war to exterminate it. They hold only one city with about 50 guys and your innumerable armies are massed outside of it. You send an ambassador to request a ceasefire because you want to spare them. They counter-offer: Ceasefire and give us 200,000 florins. You counter-offer: Ceasefire and I give you 50,000 florins. Their ambassador: Go to hell.
