The sooner the baby boomers are out of power the better

Do you find yourself frequently disagreeing with your parents' stances/opinions on social issues; maybe even a completely different political ideology? How about tolerance toward others? Do you think you and your peers are more accepting than your parents and your friends'? Can't find a politician you agree with? I do, and given charge against some current issues and problems (gay marriage, for instance) is arguably mostly led by the baby boomer's children, Gen Y, I eagerly await the time when our generation has power so we can quickly put the issues of today behind us (and yes, I realise they probably said the same thing). Thoughts?

  • Dude, you're probably in your 30's. And sometimes they have valid opinions and sometimes they don't.

  • My mum says if you tweet your a stalker, it pissed me off when she said that. I agree on certain things but the majority I find myself disagreeing, its time for Gen Y (Those born between 1980-2000) to take control of things, we are more tolorent, we have lived through the crap the last 2 generations put us through and have a good idea on how to improve things. Most of all we have lived with technology and best equipped to create laws for it and run a technology powered world, if we was in power gay marriage would not be a debate at all.

  • Gen Y isn't going to inherit much. On top of that, the people in power will be the children of the people in power now, will go to the same four schools, and will implement identical policy because it's what they're taught to do. In addition, the "tolerance" of this generation is pretty much the only it has going for it. Otherwise, it's undereducated, under-skilled, and completely unprepared for the world with respect to the way things have changed in the last decade. The fact that that's largely their parent's fault doesn't change how screwed they are. I foresee many "revolutions" against people that are already dead, for deeds that can't be undone.

    • Ageist. Though I agree that Boomers in general (being one myself) are pretty selfish and self-centered, the standard that I hold all generations to is the "Greatest Generation" (as Brokaw named them). The parents of the Boomers who survived the Great Depression, fought in a World War, prevented the Cold War from going hot, stamped out many diseases, began modern civil rights, and put man on the Moon. All with their own wits, determination, willingness to self sacrifice, and slide rules. Any generation, Boomers onward, is going to have a hard time matching those accomplishments.
Do you find yourself frequently disagreeing with your parents' stances/opinions on social issues; maybe even a completely different political ideology?
I don't think I've ever even discussed these things with them, though if I had to guess my parents probably don't care much about political crap overall.
How about tolerance toward others?
I think I'm only only one in my family who isn't in some way scared of black people, but I don't think that's really relevant. They're pretty apathetic about what other people think and believe.
Do you think you and your peers are more accepting than your parents and your friends'?
I live in a Christian dominated area with more pseudo-conservative republicans than anywhere else I've ever lived. If I had to imagine, the people living here are most likely more extremist in intolerance than my uncaring parents.
Can't find a politician you agree with?
What I think is what matters. I don't need an advocate.

My parents are people who constantly adapt their ideas and opinions with new information presented. I think they're quite reasonable. However I find myself extremely opposed to the political ideology of most baby boomers. I'm an economic moderate and socially libertarian for the most part. Also very anti-war. On a side note I'm actually worried our generation will act as sociopaths once we're in power. We're the generation of a recession and constant war. Post 2000 children don't know what it's like to be at peace. They've grown up in a terror state.

          • All of my friends have that problem. But I am better than them and I realize that my parents are wise people that can help me with my future and help me make the best choices.

          • I share economic ideas with many people here in this heavily conservative town. I don't agree with any of their social ideas though. I'm moderate compared to my parents and everyone else around here.

My parents' stance on social issues align pretty similar with mine. They're pretty much "live and let live" kind of people. Don't worry, when our generation is "in power" we'll be seen as intolerant for something. We just don't know what it is, yet. Each generation becomes more tolerant and accepting of differences than the one before it (not that it excuses anything).

            • Baby boomers are idiots. And I can't wait for them to be out of power. HOWEVER, the generation following them is just as idiotic. I think that they are generation X. Most of them are pissed off 30 year olds with radical left wing politics trying to rebel against the shackles of their conservative parents. They're going to be no better either. I'm hoping that the generation to follow them--generation Y I think, will be somewhat better off.

                    >Baby Boomer looks for job when he was a kid. >"Sure kid, come back tomorrow and I'll let you stack crates." >Baby Boomer becomes manager. >5 year work experience for minimum wage entry level position. >"KIDS THESE DAYS ARE SO LAZY. THEY JUST WANT TO STAY AT HOME." I -blam!-ing hate Boomers....

                    • I'm not a fan of Baby Boomers, they've pretty much placed back breaking debt on me and my children and my children's children. They support gulf war troops, but pretty much shat on their brothers in Vietnam. Their generation would change the world. Yeah, they pretty much turned it to crap and now my generation gets to change their bed pans and try to pay off the Chinese on wages from stocking grocery stores and greeting people at Walmart.

                    • Believing that everyone in 'your' generation thinks the same as you do. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just because you hear what you want to hear, because that is the information you seek does not mean that is how everybody else your age sees things. Nearly EVERY generation is still split roughly 50/50 on all major issues, within themselves.
