The Twilight Gap

Edit: I overlooked the fact that the same page I used as my source pretty much already says what the Twilight Gap is. Turns out it's an area on Earth with fortresses that where destroyed by the Cabal when we first encountered them. Thanks a lot, EMJAYEL. Regardless, you can now enjoy and make fun of my ridiculous and obsolete speculations below while we wait for this thread to die. The pictures are pretty too. -------------- Original Post:
It's been years since [the Cabal] first made their presence known at the Twilight Gap. While early reports have them centered on or around Mars, the true might of the Cabal is still wrapped in speculation. Awaiting more reports from the Vanguard.
Twilight Gap Does it look familiar? For those of you that don't know, this is the Milky Way galaxy as can be seen from our solar system. Here is how it looks like from Earth. Why is it called the Twilight Gap? First of all, it is a beautiful interplay between light and darkness set on a darker sky, reminiscent of the world between day and night. Second of all, it creates a visual "gap" in the void, a rift. But then why isn't it just called the Milky Way like it is today? After we had expanded throughout the solar system, "something hit us". This "something" drove humanity back towards Earth and confined humanity to a single city under the shadow of the Traveler. Our civilization laid in ruins, everything lost along with centuries worth of knowledge about our world and the universe. How far did human civilization decline during this time period? It was a Dark Age for humanity. Without knowledge of the term "Milky Way", the remaining of humans (keep in mind Destiny's mythic sci-fi mood) would have named it something more "fantastical": the Twilight Gap. ------- But what bothers me the most about my idea is the fact that the Cabal "made their presence first known at the Twilight Gap," as if it where a place inside or within the vicinity of the solar system where one could attack humanity. But what of that we know or can reasonably speculate would fit that description? This led me to the idea that the Twilight Gap is perhaps not a physical place, but a time period. As I mentioned before, humanity's Golden Age was cut short. The Twilight Gap marks the appearance and machinations of the force that "hit us", whether it be the Cabal, the other aliens, or the Glimmer, who by a black mist are shrouded in mystery. Perhaps then, Twilight Gap is the period, or rift, between humanity's Golden Age (day) and Dark Age (night). ------- TL;DR The Twilight Gap is the Milky Way galaxy as seen from our planet. - The Cabal and other aliens "originate" from it. - Named that way because of how it looks and because we lost knowledge of the name "Milky Way" OR The Twilight Gap is a time period. - Marks the point of humanity's decline when "something hit us". - This sent us from the Golden Age to what I call the "Dark Age". - Essentially the gap between humanity's Golden Age (day) and Dark Age (night).

I'm thinking the first hypothesis is the most likely. But look closely at how the phrase is used...
It's been years since [the Cabal] first made their presence known at the Twilight Gap. While early reports have them centered on or around Mars, the true might of the Cabal is still wrapped in speculation. Awaiting more reports from the Vanguard.
"made their presence known at the Twilight Gap." this gives the impression that the Twilight Gap is a place, perhaps on a planet. But since the word "at" is used I wouldn't think that's where they came from. It sounds more like the Twilight Gap is where they first appeared here in our solar system rather than where they came from. And as for the second hypothesis the same goes; since the words "presence" and "at" are used I would definitely say that it is a location of some sort, rather than a time period.
