Honestly... [TDK thread]

I like Batman Begins the best of the trilogy. Aside from... the plot hole. I just loved its portrayal of Gotham from an artistic standpoint. The Dark Knight was excellent as well, but the pacing was really weird. It was as if the movie was constantly at its climax. It made for some great suspense, but watching it again is a bit jarring. The Dark Knight Rises was the poorest of the bunch IMO. It's still a good movie, but aside from the plot holes, I have two massive complaints about it: A) Batman isn't in his suit/with his gadgets for more than half an hour in his 2.5 hour finale. I get that we have to make Batman experience a hero's journey again, but come on... it's just... not fun to watch IMO. B) The final battle doesn't take place at night. I'm sorry, I understand that there's a metaphorical "new day for Gotham" message there, but it's simply not Batman to me without a night battle. That's what he is. Nolan tried to paint him as a symbol of hope with this movie, but to me, that's not what Batman is. You're looking for Superman if you want a symbol of hope. Batman is supposed to win his battles by instilling fear in his enemies. He's one with the night. And the final battle should have taken place at night. So Flood, what was your favorite of the Dark Knight trilogy?

Going on a slight tangent, I would pay to see a trilogy with this^ Batman. --------------- Anyway, I haven't seen TDKR, so if I had to pick between Batman Begins and TDK, I'd have to go with TDK. Heath Ledger really made the movie great, but besides that, I think it was filmed a lot better than Batman Begins (Less shaky-cam for one). And I absolutely cannot excuse the one plothole to rule them all in Batman Begins.

  • We all know it - The Dark Knight was one of the best goddamn movies we've ever seen. Come on, Joker. JOKER!

Come on, nobody agrees that the final fight should have taken place at night at the end of TDKR?

    • The Dark Knight. Somehow it made the most impression of the three.

    • TDK is my favorite, and I can't pick between BB and TDKR. I liked TDKR more stylistically and Bane was awesome, but BB was less... overwrought? It felt like Nolan was going for just a little bit too much with TDKR and he came up slightly short of the goal line. TDK was not without its weaknesses, but I do not foresee a comic book movie beating it for a long time.

    • Batman Begins was by far my favorite one out of the trilogy. After that, The Dark Night Rises, and my least favorite was The Dark Night. Like you said, the pacing was weird. I don't like movies based off pure adrenaline, despite a good performance on the Joker's side, the movie lacked substance.

    • I think the whole trilogy as a whole is seriously overrated but still, here's my opinion: -TDK. Could it be anything else? -Rises. The perfect conclusion to a decent trilogy. Bane was IMO on par with Joker, which I'll probably be flamed for. -Begins. I thought this one rather stale. I didn't like how they treated Scarecrow like some used piece of shitty underwear. Also, the aforementioned plot hole definitely detracted from the movie. Wouldn't the machine also disperse the water in our bodies in a very macabre manner? God I hated that thing.

    • >TDKR How the heck did he get into the city in full bat gear? How the heck did he make the flaming bat symbol without anyone noticing? Why did Bane's crew decide to rip with wings off a plane if they wanted to make it look like a crash? What the hell were they even doing with the guys on the plane? That was never developed. The plane interrogation scene itself jesus christ.

      • I liked all three, but The Dark Knight is my favorite. Probably my favorite movie period. The tone, themes, and psychology of the movie just made it awesome to me. I really just thought it hammered home what Batman was about by the end of the movie.

      • The Dark Knight, Heath Ledger's Joker was magnificent, and it was more about Batman staying true to himself the other two are him becoming a better person TDKR disappointed me because it was basically Batman Begins plot.

        • What's The Plot Hole in Batman Begins? Is it the whole blowing up the fortress thing?
