Inside the Last City

After several hours of playing in the frontiers of Destiny you might want to go back inside the city to relax for awhile. What are some of the highlights of the city that might interest you to take a break from exploring the wilderness? Maybe you just want to go to your in game house or apartment to store stuff; or get an idea what is happening around the city for fun. Perhaps you just came to the city to sell your unwanted loot from the Fallen then go shopping for a new ship? With the last city as a safe place for your guardian to unwind a little from the threats of the wild; what do you think the city has to offer for the guardians?

  • Hopefully as little filler as possible. Each feature should have its counterpart manifested in-universe. Likely the tower for mission select/ travel and spaceship customization, clan/faction hall for group contacts, armory and character customization, and finally an arena or some virtual training battlefield for competitive pvp. Fast traveling to and from these spaces should be an option as well as walking through the interstitial scenery, to overhear the usual NPC chatter or bump into players waiting for friends or not sure of what to do next. But putting a ton of work into a giant baroquely detailed space or russian nesting dolls of spaces where no combat happens is a waste and tedious to sludge through to get to the meat of the game. People say they want heaps and loads of details but end up complaining later when they realize the most enjoyable parts are buried in layers of clutter. It's not a matter of you guys setting your hopes unrealistically it's not recognizing game design principles. The City is somewhat of a replacement for navigating to game modes solely through start menus. Yes, it will be awesome scenery and immersive, but it will also need to be lean to serve its intended purpose.
