There have been several interesting takes on a talent tree or skill progression in gaming over the last few years.
Path of exile comes to mind for a long term player progression.

What would you like to see, and how would you like it implemented?

I really just want something where you can adjust your own stats and skills similar to the Kotor games or something like wow where there are specific tiers and you choose from a specific set of passives that affect your abilities or new abilities in general. I feel that it would be nice if they stuck with something simple and didn't do anything too crazy. Not because I am some super casual player but because I have personally had enough with super complex trees that don't really add much and simply are cookie cut into specs that you find online. So what I recommend is something similar to wow's current talent design because it is simple, but not only that because you can't cookie cut it and the choices that you make can be pretty big to how it affects the utility of your class and more or less relies on personal preference. TL;DR Keep it simple but have the choices that you make have a big impact on your characters utility. Just my two cents but I of course also would like to see something different. Who knows maybe they will create something new with talents.
