Destiny not being released in 2013?
Please note that Bungie themselves have not said this so I would take it with a grain of salt. If it is true I will be little disapionted, but can't say that i'm surprised.

But what I want to know is that in which month next year will Activision release the game? Will they release it early next year so as to give the game some breathing room but at the same time risk losing consumer interest and the buying momentum carrying over to the holiday season. Or will they release it in the fall well near the holidays but again at risk of cannibalzing its sales as well as affecting their other major franchise Call of Duty? I will really like to read what other posters think about this situation.

That's fine I almost don't want it too. I want the game to be as polished as possible to enhance my experience. Ill wait as long as I need for this game.

After seeing the E3 trailer while watching ESPN Sportscenter a few days ago, this changed my mind. Why pay for top-notch add space in May 2013 (6pmEST on ESPN) for a game that's not coming out until 2014? 2. This game is being heavily tied to the PS4. This game alone would help move thousands of PS4s this holiday season. So I'm expecting Destiny to release shortly after the PS4 release (Nov-Dec).

Would you rather they rush the game and get the game out early only to be disappointed by them rushing to get the product out, or would you rather they take their time to make sure that the game lives up to the hype of the video. I would prefer the latter. I have been a big fan of the games in the past because of the time and care they took with their games!

2 RepliesIt could be that I am wrong but I had assumed the game was playable at this point. If it is playable and they show game play of it at E3 than is it normal to spend an entire other year just to polish and test it? I do not know much about game development so maybe this is indeed the case.

I don't expect Destiny being released this year for a number of reasons. 1: Need more time to finish the game, remove bugs etc. 2: Activision don't wanna put two of it's franchises versing together. Especially for monster sized franchises such as Call of Duty.

In February Activision said that Destiny was not in there 2013 release outlook and that nothing was pointing to a different result. Game looks amazing, but when you look so good you should make sure all the bugs are fixed before you release of course. So working on it until next year makes sense.

I assume it will be released after the next-gen consoles hit shelves. Honestly, I wouldn't mind if it came out around this time next year if it means extra time to work out bugs and give us the best game possible.

3 RepliesSecretly i wouldnt mind a 2014 release. I would love to play, just as every other person has put on this forum but look at other games that have fast deadlines. Argueable Halo 4. 343 had to quicken production to be with Black Ops 2. I loved it at first, but it just ended abrutly. To make the best game ever, which Bungi CAN do. They can't have deadlines that ruin the game. Just look at their last masterpiece ;)!

3 RepliesSo the *publisher* says it's not coming out this year-- the PR even said "do not expect or speculate on any other result" and you take that with a grain of salt because it wasn't from the developer? How often to developers come out with games *earlier* than publishers say, rather than later? Ever? Has anyone EVER seen that happen? We all want the game to come sooner rather than later, but at this point it seems like wishful thinking. The only reason people think 2013 at all was because of another publisher document-- the contract. Bungie never said anything about a 2013 release.

I assume (and hope) that Activision didn't forecast any revenue from Destiny in CY2013 because they were being conservative (for their investors) and to permit Bungie to deliver a product that meets their quality goals without a murky deadline a mere 10 months from now. I'm as eager to play as the next guy, but I'm relieved that Activision seem to get that this new universe needs to start off with a big beautiful BANG when the time is right.

They have invested Millions upon millions of dollars into this project and Bungie gets more money if they also release the game in a certain time frame and achieve certain milestones. From the looks of the gameplay, the world seemed pretty well put together and it looked just a little buggy. It seems like the biggest challenge was making the server/engine intergration but it appears they are almost done with that. I think they wouldn't of announced it now, this early, if it was not planned for 2013. If it was for 2014, they would of just waited for E3. To be honest, if it was supposed to come out in 2014, I wish they wouldn't of announced the game yet.

We don't know for sure yet. I'm putting my bets on anywhere from September to March of the 2013/14 season.

6 RepliesWhat do you mean take it with a grain of salt because Bungie themselves haven't said this. Bungie don't decide when this game gets released, thats up to Activision. So yeah, this game isn't coming out this year.
