I think each one of the one of seven memebrs was assigned a geomancy symbol on bungie day, And those may match up with the factions.

Yeah I remember that all from back around Bungie Day. I also like the connection with the Pleiades you mentioned; I came back to that myself many times when speculating on what everything meant over the summer.
