Destiny Beta
As anyone who has been a part of the Bungie community for any length of time knows, Bungie often releases a multiplayer beta for their games (the Halo 3 beta, Reach beta). So here's a question for you all. If you believe the rumors circulating about Destiny being an MMORPG, or even having some significant multiplayer aspect, do you think a beta will be released? If so, well then it's going to be soon, as Destiny is slated to launch this fall. Assuming all these speculations prove to be true (there is a beta, Destiny will launch this fall, and there will be a significant multiplayer) what do you guys think the requirements for entry will be? What do you expect from it? What would you LIKE to see?

3 RepliesI said this elsewhere. Destiny is an Activision game, right? The best business move would be to include Beta access for all people that buy the next Call of Duty game. That benefits both games. BOOM!

3 RepliesMicrosoft probably pushed them into betas. Or, that's what I always though. Perhaps Bungie just wants to get early glimpses to their fans?

Halo 3 and Reach public beta input came from the lens of previous Halos. Since this is a completely new game, our input would have no focus. With the Halo betas, there was a clear goal of testing matchmaking code and mechanics on a large scale. This was feasible because the small, separate, levels of an arena shooter could be placed into a beta build. At the moment we understand that Destiny will resemble an MMOFPS which connotes large playspaces. I believe it would be a difficult task to choose playspaces to test with the public without compromising plot points. Despite this, if there is some arena shooter aspect to the game (Please be a pseudo-Star Wars Wing Game), I hope they'll test this with the public.

A beta would be hyper useful if they're planning on doing anything ambitious with the networking, the sheer datamining potential is huge.

1 ReplyYes, I believe there will be a beta, and that members from this community will be involved. As far as a time slate goes, I imagine it will be around mid summer. The beta isn't meant for the public to find bugs necessarily (they will have those weeded out, or at least mostly), it will be for multi-player data and adjustments. So pumped.
