Blocked/Muted Tags should be a Feature. Why? Come on in.

A few days into Bungie.next, Recon 54 posted the idea of Blocking tags. This was in response to be suggesting that muted users be completely removed from my viewing experience, 'blocked post' break and all. After a while, This idea of Blocked Tags has sunken in. Here are some of my thoughts; 1. [i]Muted[/i] Tags - Fully blocking specific tags from your viewing experience. If you do not care to see Religious topics in your feed, mute them! If you find a particular group to be spamming threads or frequently posting threads that you do not wish to participate in... Mute them! 2. [i]Blocked[/i] Tags - This would work differently than blocking a specific post - Let's say you're in the mood to surf some Multiplayer threads in the Gaming subforum, but you don't care to see Halo 4 threads. Having the option to block the Halo 4 threads would refine my ambiguous search, making it that much easier to find a thread in which i can participate in. One particular issue i do have with tags is the fact that nobody seems to know how to do it. Many gaming threads have #this game #multiplayer #campaign #fps #blahblahblah. Sometimes I'd to get deep with the community about specific aspects of games, but I don't want to post another OP if the content is already there. If I could block #multiplayer, I'd like it to remove ALL threads tagged with #multiplayer from my search, even if the thread in question deals with some aspects of the games campaign. This could also be applied to Private Groups if they were given the feature of tag filtering (more than just the trending now list). How about you guys? Good idea? Bad Idea?

  • Okay, so I gotta admit, it would be nice to block some of the more aggravating tagged topics, like ________ and _________. But, on the other hand, I can't help but think that we're all in control of what we click on. Then again, I don't know about other people, but sometimes I have some strange masochistic urge to click on threads that I just know are going to aggravate me with their over the top hyperbole, and it would be nice to be able to just block them out entirely so as to resist temptation to mess with blood pressure meds. I am a little confused as to the difference between muting and blocking tags. Doesn't that pretty much do the same thing either way?
