They aren't; it's true. I mean, unless you are a strawberry picker or day worker who hangs out by Home Depot looking for work.
The problem with undocumented workers isn't the fault of the worker, it's the fault of the employer hiring them regardless of their citizenship status. If your local Pizza Hut hires a few Mexicans to cook pizzas instead of college kids, that isn't the fault of the immigrants for taking the job.
There's a problem with the system and cracking down on employers who hire undocumented workers, not a problem with immigrants trying to make some money to get a better life.

Ohhh noessss, they tooks out McDizzle jobs.
-
You should thank these Illegal Immigrants. They take all of the menial hard labor jobs that none of us want to work, and keep our food prices way down low because the farmers don't have to pay them as much. And although minor, seeing as we won't have it much longer, they also freely contribute to our social security because none of them will ever collect it.
-
They may not be taking our jobs, but they are still breaking the law by entering the country illegally. They also do pose a potential security risk since we do not know who they are. They might be violent felons, hell they could be terrorists of some nature looking to break into the US to cause havoc. Deporting them isn't an option. Building a fence between here an Mexico isn't an option. Granting them all amnesty isn't either.
-
Hey, I'd work in a field but I can't compete with people who make under minimum wage. The law says I have to be paid minimum wage and that is what I want.
-
Part of the problem is that people seem to think alot of jobs are "beneath" them. That's one of the bigger problems with people my age. Fresh out of college and they want the best, and only the best, paying jobs even though they have little to no work experience. Sure, maybe working at Wal-Mart or as a laborer isn't the best job, but it does put food on the table and pays the bills. Not everyone can have higher class jobs.
-
Illegal immigrants also fill a void by working jobs that otherwise wouldn't exist even with an army of unemployed college kids running around looking for work. I'd say incentivizing the hiring of legal citizens when possible would be better than punishing them if they simply have no choice.
-
Isn't that entirely subjective? From a business perspective, why wouldn't you hire ridiculously cheap workers to produce something at a lower cost? That's called efficiency. Considering illegal aliens are just that -- illegal -- it seems like we should be cracking down on our border patrolling, along with deportations. Obama's done a pretty good job of the latter.
-
So basically you're ignoring the fact that those are jobs that could have been taken by Americans, but are taken by illegals, and your justification for this is that they're bad jobs. And you also ignore he fact that those employers wouldn't even be able to give an illegal immigrant a job if they didn't come illegally in the first place. Great logic. /obvious sarcasm

DEH TUK OUR JUBS!
-
ALEONS TEK ER JERBS
-
THEY BROKE HIS JAW
-
But they are still taking our tax money. I guess you could argue that is the gvernments fault.
-
But a good thing is that they take all the nasty jobs. Like custodial stuff.
-
My friend's powder coating business mostly employees illegals. So nope.
-
Businesses like to say that it costs more to hire legal people looking for work. So why doesn't the government just offer some sort of incentive for hiring American citizens? If it wasn't for the one college class I'm taking right now, I'd be full blown Hikikomori status right here cause no one in my area wants to out of HS kids.
-
I think it's funny when people get all mad about immigrants coming here illegally and not paying taxes. Do you think they don't want to be citizens? Do you think they wouldn't love to be a part of this country and pay taxes? My father just earned his citizenship 3 years ago after living here for over 20 years. He was a resident for a while, got a superintendent job in a construction company and makes 100k even every year. He was born in a house made of cardboard and tin metal. Came to the U.S., got a job from working hard, and people over here speak English and expect government aid? Hell no. My father is the reason I'm a republican and don't pity people who constantly take from the government "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" and that quote is from a democrat! Oh how times have changed.

I'd say there are many factors. Illegals are part of the problem because they are willing to work for such paltry wages. However, citizens refusing to take the jobs for such low pay are also part of the problem. Just as society is, for placing a social stigma on these types of jobs. And the employers as well. There is no one "central" group to blame this problem on. Everyone seems to be guilty of letting it happen.
-
Edited by Dredd: 1/24/2013 6:23:40 PMPretty sure this is common knowledge. That's the only good thing that comes for illegals. Then again, I would still prefer a legal citizen to have a job over an illegal.

Edited by Codename 207: 1/24/2013 6:16:27 PMI'm sure the homeless understand your stance too, OP. The bigger issue is that they find work here in order to enrich their own country. The job market there is bad enough to them that illegally crossing the border for a job here is better than finding a job back in their own country.
-
Edited by Noshotskill: 1/24/2013 6:11:46 PMOur economy is the reason so many people can't find jobs. Most companies are trying to let people go over hiring kids fresh out of college.

But.....but...

The illegal immigrants take the jobs that NO ONE wants. Strawberry picking? No one wants to do that for 8 hours a day for minimum wage. Garbage burning? No one wants to do that for the whole day for minimum wage. They want to do the truck driver's job because that's where the real money is at, not the burning. Yet, the truck driver is an American. It's just paranoia. I know for sure I don't want to work minimum wage for work that is way too destructive for my body. I want to work in a place that allows me to use my skills to its full potential, and I have that job already.

Old copypasta is old.

Edited by BADMAGIK: 1/24/2013 6:01:56 PMSo misinformed. It's not the job part that hurts the economy smart guy. It's the entitlements and social programs they get from our own government that's the problem. Explain to me how an illegal immigrant............ILLEGAL, can get social security benefits when THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER?!!!
-
I know.

Get rid of the minimum wage and we could address the problem better IMO. A lot of traditional American industry relies on illegal labor because they would be uncompetitive or too costly if they did not - agriculture and construction mainly.
