This site looks bloody marvelous, but the lack of proper forums will harm the BNet community.

The array of forums, subforums & groups we had before; all lined up in an easy to use, clear, coherent fashion were wonderful. It was easy to simply click on Community, The Flood, Halo 1 PC etc & it would all be there, in a standardized forum way. For me, at least, the way that the forums worked (i.e. as a catagorised thing, not like this tumblr/twitter thing we have now) was one of the key reasons that I kept flocking back to use BNet. As I say, it looks great, it looks futuristic & it looks clean. However, it doesn't feel anywhere near as usable as BNet previously was. Perhaps I'm just reluctant to change. I do love the tagging though, that aspect of this definitely works well. Anybody agree? If so, what's your major gripes & likes?

  • Only thing I dislike is the backwardsness of the post order, should be oldest first, so I can read what has happened in order

    • I agree. While I like the new site layout, seeing it now really makes me appreciate all of the sub-forums we had before. I'm not a big fan of the whole tagging thing, either.

I'm not a fan. It looks nice besides the white. Too bright. The lack of real forums is the biggest issue I have. I also hate how the newest reply to a thread is the first reply we see.

How are we to have propper nerd discussions, that rage on about the tiniest details, with quotes after quotes and dozens of paragraphs, in this bright environment? It is as if Bungie has kicked out the hardcore lore/universe debaters, and promote Twitter stile, lighthearted small talk. Comments just end up getting burried in between comments on the OP!

      • I like the aesthetics, but am very confused with this layout.

      • I'm pretty bewildered, but I'm going to give the new layout some time before I start saying anything critical.

      • The old system was easy to use, but was limited, didn't scale well, and required additional navigation to get from one forum section to the other. The beauty of the tag system ( IMO ) is that it serves the exact same logical purpose forum sections served, but without the rigid boundaries that required users to switch from one section to another to follow multiple threads. In terms of scale, it's also a lot easier now to support new categories of threads; no more needing dedicated forum sections means less site maintenance as the community grows or wants to discuss different kinds of topics.

      • I agree, I feel like this was a step backwards. Bungie.net in my eyes was the most simple easy to navigate forum out there. It's why I stayed there in the first place, now it is like every other forum.

      • I'm not sure how well the new forum setup will work. I'm not saying that this new setup does not have its merits. This is definitely a nifty new way to search for threads and I am glad they added it. However, I do feel that this would have been better if implemented with the old forum setup. Basically, have the forums look and work the way they did before bungie.next, but add the hash tag ability to look for specific themes or as a sort of quick search. One of the reasons I came here was because of all the different types of threads the community would make. I would not come looking for anything specific, but just to see what the forums had to offer. There are subjects that I would never have thought to talk about, but some in the forums did and, after I say the thread, I would avidly wish to join in the conversation. Now, it seems that I have to know what I wish to talk about. It cuts off so many different topics from users, just because they may not think of them at the moment. This may take away from the experience of conversing with the bungie.net community. I hope I am wrong, though.

      • Completely agreed. I am so confused right now. Also, I don't like the white. Every other site does that. Bungie.net was always great because it was aesthetically pleasing and was innovative. This... this is not.. :(

        • Agreed OP. The new layout needs some work done to it. The new username changer is awesome. I miss the flood.

I agree. Some things are good (clean interface for one), but some things are utter shit. Name changing is actually kinda stupid, now that I think of it. Sure, I enjoy being able to change my display name (Loktar OGar is stupid), but you can so easily change that it just is kinda stupid. Sure we have this "aliases" thing and the other unique ID, but it doesn't feel the same. Plus, new posts being at the top is stupid. At least do it like reddit, where the most liked posts are at the top (looking at it, apparently we can't even like individual comments, only "threads").

          • I don't even know how to use hashtags.

Yeah, I agree that I also preferred the old forum setup with game forums and sub-community forums as well. This is just a little bit.... odd so far, I must say. However, after using the site for more than a few seconds now, I can see it being useful. And it actually isn't bad, to be honest. I'll be sticking around the... ahem, #Community "forum"/hashtag for now until I'm comfortable looking around.

I also agree that i liked the way the forums were set up better with Bungie.net, But hey you never know this could work. Change is different and uncomfortable at first, but you have to work through it and learn the new site. Also remember this is just the Beta which was a great Idea to do. #Feedback

            • Yeah, we've got to get our separate forums back. This hashtag system is a confusing mess.
