In my opinion what really killed the destiny experience was in game fireteam finder and then not being able to put our lfg posts in our own words

2 RepliesBesides the portal? The funneling of talent away from this franchise in an attempt to inject themselves into an already saturated market. That and horrible, horrible, mismanagement.

1 ReplyEdited by Whopping Dingers: 1/24/2026 12:36:31 AM1. Trials of Osiris being launched all the way back in house of wolves. It really split clans and brought in a lot of toxicity. 2. Losing a clear path to max power, loot, and what the weekly rituals were. It was easy to follow and when you were done you just took a break until the next dlc. It is a real convoluted mess now. 3. Greed. The price of expansions just went through the roof. As they released, the content supplied just didn’t warrant it anymore. 4. Removal of content in D2, and the re-release of D1 raids. Lack of innovation and the reworks just soured the original nostalgia. It’s a shame. For me I wish they just did an all strikes playlist from d1 and d2. It’s nice to mindlessly just jump into and shoot stuff.

Edited by Meat Fountain: 1/24/2026 6:20:47 AMI blame a lot of things but I think the relentless ramp up of FOMO since EoF launched is a large part of it. An analogy: broadcast TV is dying because streaming offers a better way. Watch the content you want when you want at your own pace. Meanwhile, Destiny 2 becomes increasingly restrictive over what is available to the player and when. The inconsistency of everything isn't helping either. Play the same activity twice and you can end up with entirely different rewards for a whole raft of reasons, very few of them good. It's all a bit of a clown show, really. A final thought... You know things are bad when even the resident self-appointed sentiment police have given up.

3 RepliesEdited by Sen: 1/23/2026 8:25:23 PMRemoving any ladder in the game in Beyond Light and allowing players to get to max pinnacle cap by NOT doing endgame content like it has been for the majority of the franchise. Raid and dungeon (and pinnacle high end activities) loot should be astronomically better than anything that you can get anywhere else. Heck, even different loot pools to make the weapons unique to have incentive to do said activities. Making the game free Power Sharing Having a power level skip to play the newest expansion. Removing campaigns and having season story disappear instead of making it so that all of the content can be in the game at once. New light experience being trash and pushing away players Not having the lastest expansion include all previous expansionan Having the game difficulty be based on deltas instead of mechanics and paying attention to what's happening around you Bending the knee to those who complain about the genre they're playing instead of the game itself Overall, not having mechanics that get be made more difficult in harder activities in such a way that the easier part of the game essentially trains people for the majority of endgame content. With harder endgame CONTENT requiring more cooperation and communication. Not adding and keeping explorer mode. Too much fluff with menus. Portal is a good idea with bad execution. Having bad luck protection but allowing people to use currency to buy things they're unlucky in getting. 50 raid token for the exotic for example. Getting one every time you do the raid or an encounter of the raid. Newest raid and dungeon gets capped per week. Until the next one OR until 3 months passes.

Portal and Tiered weapons. Mostly the portal. If the rest of the game was in the tier system it’d be a bit more bearable.

1 ReplyInitially it was how slow and RNG based leveling up was with the release of EOF. Now currently I think it’s the oversaturation of negative modifiers and bullet sponge enemies. You will legit get whiplash from doing a quickplay strike to a lawless frontier or something. Quickplay is so easy I practically just hipfire a primary or try untested builds. Then in the lawless frontier you don’t regenerate health, there is permanent energy drain and all ammo famine, plus after like the first objective everything is so tanky that you might as well not even have a primary. Special, heavy, and abilities are the only thing capable of defeating the walking sponge enemies.

Edited by ben: 1/22/2026 4:33:53 PMTier 5 system, portal, return of insane level grind, and the interaction between these 3 things being launched horribly at the same time. Its hard to win people back after that

The whingers + bungie making changes because of those whingers. Portal is good Limites revives are good Timed missions are good
-
The game nowadays is completely different than it was on release, for worse, not better.
-
The board members and upper management. Sony sitting on the sidelines watching Bungie go down in flames does not help. Does Bungie have high level developers? This game is a direct reflection of everyone from the top to the bottom.

For me, raising the floor instead of the ceiling with Lightfall. -
Edited by Machine_DNA: 1/22/2026 2:41:09 PMIt lost its magic. Seasonal model with no innovation, lack of quality control and no longer have ‘cool’ events or gear to earn (all because of Eververse). The portal just made this lost magic obvious to more players. No one ever expected the game to be perfect. But it became soulless.

A combination of things… but I think most are payers were just done with doing the same activity over and over!

Guardian, Archon Of LightArchon Priest Of House Light - old
Calling the end of the light and dark saga Final Shape, people with low attention spans took that literally Not establishing a clear and present threat beyond the Witness, The 9 and the Winnower should have made their presence felt before the credits rolled in final shape The Portal and Soft Sunsetting took care of the rest -
Greed of Upper Managment.
-
Lack of clear communicative and visual support. "The lack of support is visible🤣" Basically, all the talent went to marathon and the fact they had 5 incubation projects shafted and hence, lay-offs, its been going downhill But one thing remains the same, Lightfall killed destiny 2. We just didnt see it yet at the time

Portal, tiered gear AND the quadrupling down on egregious eververse practices.
-
The Tier System. Lotsa Burnout. The Portal is actually ok and the challenges too. But I can't stand all this B Greater nonsense; I sometimes skip it and I haven't paid much attention to the modifier system. Kudos to the Vanguard Alerts Ops. But what's with the lack of matchmaking in activities? Onslaught should have it!

1 ReplyIts not dead but the main issue has been and will continue to be the group of people who "quit" the game, complain constantly about it, and then attack anyone for liking the game. Just give it a little and I bet some of them will appear here.
