A Question for the Masses

So after a few hours of play this morning, as well as suffering PvP matches against 4.0kd teams and more than a few blatant cheaters, I found myself asking myself a few questions and I kinda want to know the thoughts of those who still play. A warning to the Ninjas that still go on power trips and stalk the forum: None of the following is hate speech. They are honest questions and opinions. If they hurt your feelings I suggest you seek counseling. My questions are as follows: 1) Should Bungie sell Destiny and Marathon and shut down? They’ve obviously been struggling to produce lately. The Twabs are pathetic and although we’ve been promised clarity there has been only more skepticism and confusion. They also seem to be heavily loosing the battle against cheaters if they were ever fighting to begin with as we still dont have any proof than them supposedly telling a few chosen YouTubers “Trust me bro” 2) Dose Destiny even have a future? Bungie has stated time and again they have “Big Ideas” but so far those ideas have been abysmal at best. Renegades being the best expansion so far in a very long time. Edge of Fate was a unanimous failure as it was hated by a vast majority. The Portal is pathetic and takes away a lot of what the original UI had that made the game feel more…alive? Is that the term? 3)Can Bungie recover? I think its pretty clear by now that most of the dev teams with any sort of success have been put on Marathon leaving Destiny with the B Teams leftovers. Not to mention EVERY. SINGLE. TIME theres an update, several more bugs are introduced or mechanics get broken and no longer function properly. Dose QA even exist? I dont feel like it does. Also at this point I feel they e bent the knee to Streamers, YouTubers and Twitchers far too much. I cant help but think everytime a weapon or ability gets nerfed its no longer for the sake of balance but to make some stupid content creator happy. (You know who you are) Thats all I got. Thanks for hanging in there through this rant and if you got your own questions or opinions please share them with respect and dignity.

  • all great games or franchises come to end eventually. hanging on to what it was is not the way, for that was many moons ago. The best thing to happen is for it to move out to pasture and maybe in 10 years, someone new will bring out D3 with a new slate to work from and it will be reborn. I kinda felt Renegades was the end of things. If more content makes its way into the game, I will be more of the same = meh. It's sad to see it end on a flat note. but think back, what great games/franchises went out with the best version of itself?

  • I’ve given a little of my thoughts below, fwiw. 1. No. Destiny has ran its course. Marathon is launching into a niche that’s already full of established alternatives and other, new(ish) games that don’t have the ‘Bungie baggage’ to put people off. 2. Not beyond the existing player base. Destiny is largely dismissed by others that have tried it in the past and those that were never going to be interested in playing it. 3. No. Bungie have put a lot of time and effort into successfully driving masses of players away from this game. I was interested in Destiny because of Halo. Now I’m not interested in any new game from Bungie because of Destiny 2.

    • Renegades, the best expansion in a very long time? Brother, zoom out & look at Renegades from a distance. 2 story missions, 1 exotic mission, 1 exotic weapon, 8-10 runs of the seasonal activity, 30-40 trips to listen to NPC waffle, a seasonal vendor/s that need ranking up. This wasn't an expansion, it was a season/episode released all at once, these used to cost £10, then £15, now they charge you £35 & you describe it as the best expansion in a very long time 😆 No wonder bungie be how bungie be 🙂‍↕️

      • 1. Sony won't sell ips unless an offer is made and they don't care about the ip but I doubt anyone outside of net ease would buy destiny and they only reason for netease to buy the ip is to have full control without giving Sony a cut. 2. Marathon needs to be a hit from the start if it flops which considering multiple factors like steep competition it likely will. 3. There is a slim chance for bungie to bounce back. I see a fee possible paths for bungie 1. Marathon flops and destiny 2 continues to lose players - Sony would just shut the studio and its games down. 2. Destiny 2 fails but marathon succeeds - Sony abandons support for destiny to focus on marathon trying to keep it going strong. 3. Destiny 2 and marathon do well over the year - Sony give bungie a chance. 4. Marathon tanks hard but destiny start to recover - Sony still shut it all down.

In terms of whats going on with destiny i think it will get to a point soon where its not worth updating anymore. I think they screwed up trying to force things past the final shape. And they especially screwed up by doing an overhaul of core game mechanics during a transitional period, dropping the tier system and the new stat system to make the game way more buildcrafty while also bringing back level grind (???) and introducing the portal. I know they were trying to use this shakeup to interest people in a post-light and darkness saga era but it was not the time and it was all implemented hoooooooorribly on day 1. This stuff has all improved drastically over time but they blew the first impressions and its way too late to redeem that with your audience. Game is out of content ideas while also going in an unpopular direction sandbox and core mechanic wise. Recipe to push everyone away and not get them back. I think soon destiny will stop getting dlcs, might just get small updates and events but its going to stop being worth it soon. Look at the game's steamcharts page, less people log in to play the recent new content than were playing on any given random day at the -blam!- end of episode Heresy in June. If i recall correctly final shape cleared 200k active players on launch and EoF didnt crack 6 figures and i know renegades didnt. And renegades had the star wars hype and ended up actually being a pretty good piece of content. I think destiny still has a loyal base but theres nothing drawing people into the game in this state and I dont think any amount of changes to d2 will, the game is almost 10 years old and is long past its expiration date. If they want to keep the destiny franchise alive, the sooner they cut their losses with this game and make a new one the better. Myself and everyone in my circles that soft-quit destiny would love a fresh start and it would get us all back into the game.
So after a few hours of play this morning, as well as suffering PvP matches against 4.0kd teams and more than a few blatant cheaters, I found myself asking myself a few questions and I kinda want to know the thoughts of those who still play.
Blatant cheaters? Yeah I doubt that. It only ever seems to be the 0.8kd overall and 0.5kd in trials players who claim cheaters for them losing. Weird part is how no one needs to cheat against them and being better isn't cheating.
A warning to the Ninjas that still go on power trips and stalk the forum: None of the following is hate speech. They are honest questions and opinions. If they hurt your feelings I suggest you seek counseling.
So you think its a good idea to insult the people who can remove posts but then also claim how you aren't doing that. Yeah thats a smart move.
My questions are as follows: 1) Should Bungie sell Destiny and Marathon and shut down? They’ve obviously been struggling to produce lately. The Twabs are pathetic and although we’ve been promised clarity there has been only more skepticism and confusion. They also seem to be heavily loosing the battle against cheaters if they were ever fighting to begin with as we still dont have any proof than them supposedly telling a few chosen YouTubers “Trust me bro”
Should a company shutdown and sell their IPs? Why? Because of those who constantly complain and never learned how to just move on from a videogame? I also have plenty of proof that the actual cheaters, not the make believe ones you people see while you scream "trust me," have been banned. The game literally tells you when an actual cheater you reported gets banned. If you have never gotten that, then it means none of those people who simply did better than you are cheating.
2) Dose Destiny even have a future? Bungie has stated time and again they have “Big Ideas” but so far those ideas have been abysmal at best. Renegades being the best expansion so far in a very long time. Edge of Fate was a unanimous failure as it was hated by a vast majority. The Portal is pathetic and takes away a lot of what the original UI had that made the game feel more…alive? Is that the term?
The game clearly does have a future. The fact that even on its lowest player count source, Steam, it still pulls more players than much newer games shows that. Then theres the fact that there is still 2 more announced dlcs coming. You also cant make the claim the edge of fate was a unanimous failure seeing as how you never spoke with everyone who played and even those who claimed they hated it still stuck around playing it.
I cant help but think everytime a weapon or ability gets nerfed its no longer for the sake of balance but to make some stupid content creator happy. (You know who you are)
You just proved the whole point of how a majority of you have no clue how making a game works but still want to tell everyone you know best. Literally every game has bugs after an update and unless the thing causing it is known, it cant be fixed instantly like you people think. Now, what does bungie need to recover from? Seems the fact that they can even still retain those of you hate game shows how its still fine all while it still pulls better player numbers than newer games do. Why is it you people blame every single issue on streamers and Youtubers? Its been proven countless times, even on here with the posts made, that bungie listens to the players and not the streamers and Youtubers.
Thats all I got. Thanks for hanging in there through this rant and if you got your own questions or opinions please share them with respect and dignity.
1 question. The best part is im not going to even ask the question because the answer will be proven simply because waiting and watching. Let's see how well the answers start coming in.

As a player I really only care about my game -- everything else is news, gossip, politics... and so to some extent unless it violates some personal philosophy I run my life by I only care about the game quality and the who behind it is irrelevant. I really really couldnt care less on how we speculate (its just a fun thing we do on the side imo) on where teams went... where money went... I especially find it hilarious when a player speaks about CBMM, SBMM...etc like they know even a fraction of what they are trying to talk about. When something is bad describe the badness exactly... thats my/your expertise as a player. So what I'm driving at is I think only question 2 is important. I think that many of us see potential in this game in different facets and honestly I wish the game for at least 1 year did not produce any new content and just went about fixing and making relevant and sprucing up all the stuff already in the game. I would pay for that... they could even run it as a gofundme campaign as I think many of us would just pay for that...

            • 1) No, I don’t think they should shut down. I attribute most of the general problems to previous mismanagement and current studio focus on Marathon. With regard to Crucible specifically, it’s been a low priority for Bungie for years now. I don’t know why anyone has expectations beyond what they’ve been delivering. 2) I think Destiny’s future depends on Sony’s vision and investment. We won’t find out what that is until the multi-year roadmap is shared. 3) Yes, I think Bungie can recover, but it depends on what Sony has planned and how well Marathon does.

            • 1) didnt bungie just get bought by Sony or something? Idk but I don’t think they’re in a position to sell or to shut down rn 2) yes bc even with lower player count they can still sell stuff. Even if it gets worse theres a few people who will kept spending money 3) perchance. Probably not to the heights of forsaken, but it could be a lot better. Tbh time will tell, but it doesn’t look great. Renagades was better than edge, and the narrative team and Raid&Dungeon team are consistently cooking. Yes there’s drama, but if they keep improving it could recover. They came back from curse of Osiris, so it’s possible. Will it happen? Idk. Dosent look good, but there’s a sliver of hope for the future
