The Reward Pass Feels Hollow And Pointless

I like what the Reward Pass could be, a system that gives meaningful rewards, empowerment, and incentives to keep playing. But lately? It’s turned into the opposite: collections of small, almost pointless loot, with no real impact on power or gameplay. The only thing worthwhile are the seasonal weapons and catalysts. • Minimal Currency, Minimal Impact This season we got things like “50 Unstable Cores” as a reward sometimes when upgrading gear was costing over 650 depending on your light level😂😂 Fun fact, the whole season pass contained 300 total unstable cores, thats a slap to your face and mine in all honesty! You could dismantle a single gear and get more for it than the entire season pass, and even that didn’t move the needle on any of our builds. When a pass reward is a resource that we’re already past needing, it sends a message: “we had to put something here, so this is it.” • Low‑Tier Gear When I’m Already At The Top I’m fully decked with Tier 5 gear, yet the Reward Pass drops Tier 2 gear or service tokens that feel pointless. Why should someone who’s invested hours and hit high tiers of gear get rewards that are instantly obsolete? Another afterthought that undermines progression and value in the pass. Even Tier 3 gear would’ve been less insulting! The pass should automatically detect your highest gear tier for each gear in the pass and drop at that level like it does with power level. • Missing the Boost You Look For Right now, many items feel cosmetic or filler. I’ve gone a whole season without even claiming my entire pass because the rewards simply don’t matter. I claim the weapon and catalyst and I’m done. • It’s Not About Cosmetics Alone Cosmetics are fine, I love new shaders, emblems, sparrows. But when the pass presents these beside resources or gear that carry zero value, it feels like the content is an afterthought. The reward trajectory should support gameplay, not just sit in your vault. • Example of Players from the Community on Reddit Discussing the Same Frustration “The main pass will still be 100, but the new ranks 100‑110 are mostly shards/transmats/shaders. The XP cost is huge and the rewards feel like Eververse engrams.” — Reddit user in r/Destiny2 “Why describe extra ranks as ‘special’ when they only give gear I’ll dismantle immediately?” “Season Passes renamed to Reward Passes but the ‘reward’ still feels weaker than before.” Suggestions to Make the Reward Pass Truly Rewarding • Match reward gear tier to player power and gear tier: If I’m already getting endgame loot, pass drops should reflect that — Tier 5 or equivalent, not Tier 2. • Give meaningful resources / upgrades: Instead of drips of currency I don’t need, pass could offer items that directly support builds (powerful mods, fonts, unique upgrade mats). Even if they only last the season. • More utility, fewer filler items: Make the progression feel worthwhile. If you hit rank X in the pass, you should feel a difference in your character or build. (I’ll put this on the lower end because its not entirely necessary) • Alternate reward tracks: For players at high power, maybe a premium track or skip‑option that gives higher tier gear or upgrade bundles. This could be a fun thing to experiment with. • Transparent communication: Lastly but most importantly, If many players feel “this pass is pointless”, put it on the radar!!! A few words of acknowledgement could go a long way.
