Call to Arms (but only for top 10% of players)

Personally, I am in favour of aspirational content like this. For example, I have never gone flawless in ToO and probably never, ever will (without being carried at least anyway). And I'm fine with that. I think there is a place in the game for players to earn unique cosmetic items such as the new helmet ornament, allowing them to flex & show off a little that they are one of the best in D2 As for the helmet ornament, I think this is the right approach by bungie as it achieves the above without giving the best players some unique shithot gun that allows them to c*** on everyone else in sight. My issue with the event is more to do with the lack of explanations & directions in advance about what it is & why. And that is a communication problem for Bungo. If Bungie had stated at the beginning that there is a Seal/Triumph for everyone to earn, but as a bit of extra spice, there is a competitive element where only the best of the best can earn a prestige ornament. Most people would have still not liked it but possibly would have accepted, that maybe, that the ornament wasn't for them. Will I play to earn the Seal? Probably yes. Will I play to earn the helmet? Probably not. I will still earn all the tier 5 rolls of the guns i want & still use the free armour drops to fill in my gaps. And i'm fine with that.

 • I mean, even with the class balancing issues we had less of an issue with the competitive scoring system in Guardian Games. I feel like if everyone could compete on an equal playing field without having had to subject themselves to the most arbitrary of arbitrary level grinds in D2’s history, Call To Arms would have been much better received. Matchmade activities where it’s actually possible to earn high enough scores to feel like you’re actually participating, instead of the most anemic selection of the most detestable iteration of The Coil (Soft Lock, Soft Lock, SOFT LOCK), Cutting Edge Zone Control (though we can use whatever gear we want now), and the Salt Mines (-blam- the Salt Mines, Dread or no Dread). Don’t even get me started on Heliostat. Tried watching a guide and gave up after seeing it was more complicated than The Whisper and Zero Hour combined. I’m just not trying to play Batman Arkham City’s Riddler challenges for this event. As it stands, Proving Grounds and Crucible are the only activities that don’t Soft Lock and they’re also the lowest scoring activities for players that don’t have access to Grandmaster difficulty. All that to say TL;DR: Event was poorly implemented. Definitely could’ve felt better even if the cool ornament stayed out of the 99% of players’ reach.
