First of all, I am not trying to be a reactionary -blam!- here. I just tried to get a good view on the Bright Dust economy and what the new changes are actually doing compared to previous iterations. It's a long post, based on a lot of input from Redditors (see link), so I'll start with the summary:
Arrival era: 51200 Bright Dust a season
Before Final Shape: 31000 Bright Dust a season
Final Shape: 36000 Bright Dust on average in 12 weeks
Now: 22000 Bright Dust a season
Renegades: 26400 Bright Dust a season
Conclusions: The new system will be better than the current one, but it's still a step back for dedicated BD farmers. I am pretty sure it's better for 'normal' players that login a few times a week. It's definitely not good for folks who login a few days at the end of the season to crunch the seasonal events and grab that big pile of BD. Removing the seasonal event bounties caused a big drop in BD income. I know Arrivals era gains are never coming back, but getting somewhere between 31K and 36K seems reasonable.

Suggestion: Please put BD bounties back to Eva, it'd balance out things without breaking the Bungie Bank and promote playing the game.

Calculations (only proceed if you're really interested):
I’ll make a few assumptions and/or shortcuts
* I calculated everything on a 12 week ‘season’ basis.
* I ignore the weekly 700 BD bonus from Eververse, it is a band-aid, not a system.
* I ignore the BD from the reward pass, assuming that will be approximately the same over the years.
* I ignore small fry like repeatable 5 BD bounties, 10+ Pathfinders, etc.
* Weekly challenges give 6000 + 4000 (pile) for a 12-13 week season
* I assume that you do everything to get BD
* I assume you are a regular (daily/weekly) player
* I used a very conservative estimate of the seasonal event BD gain
Arrival era: 51200 Bright Dust
* 3600 BD * 12 = 43200 from weekly bounties (thanks Mundt!).
* 8000 BD for seasonal event
Before Final Shape: 31000 Bright Dust
* 10000 BD from weekly seasonal challenges
* 1080 * 12 = about 13000 BD from Ritual challenges.
* 8000 BD for seasonal event
Final Shape: 36000 Bright Dust
* 10000 BD from weekly seasonal challenges (averaged towards 12 weeks, because of the 3 episodes)
* 1500 * 12 = 18000 BD from Pathfinders
* 8000 BD for seasonal event
Now: 22000 Bright Dust (excluding the 700 a week as a band-aid in A&I)
* 10000 BD from weekly seasonal challenges
* 1000 * 12 = 12000 from Seasonal Hub (assuming you do most dailies)
Renegades: 26400 Bright Dust
* No BD from weekly seasonal challenges
* 950 * 12 = 11400 from Seasonal Hub (assuming you do most dailies)
* 1000 * 12 = 12000 from regular and legendary orders
* 3000 from exotic orders (half the earnings for 6 months)

1 ReplyOP: good post…thanks for that! 🤔 Am currently gathering BD to get the FoTL armour sets…and it’s a slow grind. On any given week, I usually amass around 6-10,000 BD…more so the former, but, if I don’t buy stuff - it’s the latter. I usually play anything that has a BD reward first, then on to other stuff thereafter. These days, it seems BD is harder to acquire than before…🫤 Consequently, less BD means less to play - for me. No problemo!👈 That is all. Ease Strings! 🖖👻

9 RepliesI never did do bounties for bright dust back in the day. Most others didn’t either. Been getting more bright dust since that one change they made way back and then final shape.
