The New “Orders” System Feels Unnecessary and Out of Touch

I really don’t understand why Bungie decided to replace the bounty system with this new Orders system. Nobody in the community was asking for this, and there wasn’t really anything wrong with the old setup. Bounties were simple, consistent, and worked well for players who wanted something straightforward to work toward. This new system feels like another unrequested overhaul, similar to the Portal system. It seems more like a distraction than an improvement. It’s hard not to feel like time and resources are being poured into features that don’t actually solve the problems players have been voicing for years. What players have been asking for are new and engaging activities that bring people back, fresh content and meaningful rewards, and real bug fixes and quality of life improvements that address long standing frustrations. Instead, we’re seeing energy spent on reinventing systems that weren’t broken. It gives the impression that Bungie is focused on internal redesigns rather than addressing the actual content drought or overall player experience. I’m sure the developers worked hard on the Orders system, but it just doesn’t feel like something the community needed or wanted. What players truly want are reasons to log in, things that make Destiny 2 exciting again. Systems like this don’t do that. They just reshuffle what we already have under a new name. Please, Bungie, take a step back and listen to the feedback. We want new adventures, not new menus. We want stability and fun, not another layer of complexity on systems that already worked.

  • My guess is it’s a ploy to get people to go to Nessus or wherever to engage with all the lost parts of the game . I think it’s a band aid to cover the non updated loot across the game

  • Like the time they put all that effort into a system that allows you to put stats on your emblem. No one cared. Few use it. Bounties aren't the problem. Making the game a power grind, that means nothing because of power deltas, is. Having to play old content over and over is. Tanky bullet sponge enemies that constantly respawn is. Making most of the game pointless is. The fact they think anyone gives a toss about this bright dust reduction system shows how out of touch they are.

    • It feels like they are making the game more and more like a gacha game where the best way to get stuff is to constantly get back on everyday/week/month/season to do boring monotonous things to get the stuff before it resets and you've lost what you could have earned because of life or something else that requires your attention.

    • Bounties are better. I play after work, sometimes I dont get the time to finish the bounties that day and by the time it get home the next day I still have time to finish my daily Bounties. With this new system if I dont finish I miss out because they get reset before I can play again. No one asked for this new system, and im sure people would rather you spend the resources making good new rewarding content.

    • Did anyone not understand what Bungie meant when they said this would be a low point for big new content? Their development philosophy was literally to reimagine old and current content and provide smaller updates to various systems— this was due to large budget cuts. Asking for them to do more isn’t going to make them do more. Maybe in a year or two, we can start to see bigger expansions but this is exactly what they said would happen for the near future. If you’re gonna ask them to do something, think of the things that fit the scale of what they can do.

What about this new system is not straight forward? You get on and it literally tells you what the -blam!- to do. All they did was remove the need to go pick up bounties, so stop fear mongering and acting like everything is changing. The new system is objectively better than bounties ever were, and you're chimping out over a system that isn't even in place yet. If it makes you feel better, go stand at the tower and pretend to pick up bounties after the update drops.

      • Agreed! I don’t think that orders will be bad but they seem unnecessary. There’s better things to focus on than changing crap for the sake of changing it.

      • Looks like their main goal is to limit Bright Dust and drive Eververse sales. Big surprise. Play how you like, as long as you follow Orders. No reason to go to vendors. Just do what they want you to do, rather than picking bounties that you enjoy and ignoring those you hate. Play how you want, but not really. Another nail in the coffin and another reason not to buy Renegades.

      • There are probably a bunch of reasons they've done this but one is that it's easier to keep changing UIs etc. than develop actual content. Another is that some people at Bungie clearly hate bounty hoarding and have been trying to weed the possibility of it out of the game for years. Quite why they hate something that by this point is only done by their most committed, loyal players is a mystery.

        • I just don't understand Bungie's mindset. The player count and game's reputation are both in the trash, why do they still feel obligated to limit how we play the game?

        • They just don't want us to stock up on bounties during the season so we cannot level the artifact and season pass quickly, when a new season rolls around. BUNGIE wants us to GRIND GRIND GRIND.
Nobody in the community was asking for this, and there wasn’t really anything wrong with the old setup.
Bungie would avoid at least 50% of its problems if it stopped trying to fix things that weren't broken. So much stuff had to be walked back because Bungie got a wild hair up their -blam!- that something stupid was the fix to a problem that didn't really exist and in trying to fix the problem they typically always make it worse.

              • I don't understand what was wrong with bounties. The bounty board still exists in D1 and works just fine. Pathways were interesting and rewarding. Bungie literally has TWO proven methods for player engagement and is STILL fixing things that aren't broken while ignoring things that are. Dear Bungo, the problem is that too few parts of your game are relevant. You need to refocus on CORE PLAYLISTS . You need to give us a reason to go back to the locations you already built. You need to give us BACK the locations we ALREADY PAID FOR. Bring back Flashpoints. Refresh the loot in raids and dungeons. Give strike specific loot. Make rewards from ALL activities drop at current light level. Open up the ocean of content that is D2 instead of keeping us in the kiddie pool of seasonal portal content and wondering why players are bored.

All of these overhauls and "system updates" stink of two very distinct things to me: The first is that they're indicative of Bungie's larger problem of "fixing what isn't broken" and making things worse as a result. Not only is Bungie remiss to admit it was a mistake, the few times they do, it's only ever partial rollbacks/reversions because they can't accept the L (or they just put it back on the burner to release a tweaked version months down the line no one was asking for). Change for the sake of change, if you will. The second is that it appears they're trying to make a player's interaction with the content limited to fewer and fewer places as a way to reduce work load on a smaller team. You know, the things you do when you're gearing up to put a game into maintenance mode that's ran by a skeleton crew. By forcing players into 2-3 screens for everything of "value," they can ignore areas outside of that because there's no progression-based reason anyone would go to those places. In effect, they're limiting the windows of access to Destiny content because they won't be able to maintain the entire house otherwise. Neither situation is good. The first is a common problem with stubborn development teams and out-of-touch entertainment execs while the other is groundwork for what becomes a dead game. Destiny had it's run. It's best to accept that it's over and take what little enjoyment you can get out of its ashes.

              • Dude lmfao I’ve never seen a single game change so much so often, further proof that it’s an absolute mess. Like they had a template….a successful temple…but they messed it up. Lord.

There is quite a lot of valid criticism of the system even without needing to wait and see based on info directly from bungie themselves. The removal of seasonal challenges in favor of the orders system is terrible and will blow up in their face. Currently the main source of Bright Dust is Seasonal Challenges which are pretty good and give a variety of different objectives for you to engage with various activities in the game. Seasonal challenges are also a lot more player friendly due to being able to put the game down for a month and come back and still have those challenges there to knock out for the bright dust and XP. The new order system however that is replacing them has weekly gain limits, so you gain more bright dust from objectives until you reach 1000 bright dust for the week. Afterwards you gain 10 or 20 BD from legendary and exotic objectives. The major issue with this is now basic objectives post 1k BD are now worthless as they give you NOTHING for completing them after reaching the weekly 1k bright dust. Then you are now fomo'd to login weekly for bright dust gains rather than being able to put the game down for a month and come back and still earn the same bright dust as everyone else. The seasonal limit which is 6000 BD for exotic orders is again terrible unless it is reset each major update which is likely not the case since its seasonal. Right now you get 4k bright dust for completing most seasonal challenges PER major update that adds up to 8000 bright dust for a season not including the BD you gain from the various challenges. The only thing we can wait and see about is how easily these objectives are completable just passively. But it seems to be just repeatable bounties minus needing to actually pick them up from a vendor. Honestly this is a lot of work for something that didn't really need to be done when repeatable bounties worked just fine just needed small adjustments to objectives.

                    1. Let's wait and see what Bungie has in store. One of the objectives is to add unlimited bright dust grind source similar to pre edge of fate. 2. This is honestly not a major component I would be worried about either way. As long as bright dust and chronographs don't reduce.

                  • It looks better than what we have now, but it's still a step back from previous years when it comes to Bright Dust. Removal of the Eva bounties is what hurts the most.
