You do realise that IF they were to make a D3, it'll be D1 + D2 sold back to us as new content, think about it, same armour, same gun models etc. For selfish reasons, I would like for Marathon to fail spectacularly and them concentrating again on making D2 a better game. I'm not saying that a company cannot make another game BUT to take most of the devs away from Destiny and let the rest of the loyal players in D2 down in this way is the reason I feel this way.
