"Contacting Destiny Servers"

I continue to get a "Contacting Destiny Servers" error while in the game and after several of the codes it boots me out of the game and gives me an error code weasel. I have confirmed that my internet connection is fine by playing other online games. Im trying to play on PS4 and I went to another PC in my house and it does the same thing. I did some research and found a page that suggested getting a VPN. I did so and I was able to play just fine on the PC. Due to me playing on PS4 I cannot install a VPN on the system. The page also suggested that I get a VPN on my router, however my current router does not support a VPN therefore I would need to buy a new router along with paying for a VPN. How do I play my game without spending an additional $200 on new networking hardware?
