From a skeptic, Onslaught is a win.

Sure there could be some changes but the core activity is good. This beats the season activities of perhaps the past two years. Fun, challenging, good rewards - I'll be back for more. For a more detailed critique, I'd suggest checking out the other posts on the discussion board.

  • Remove Gambit, replace it with Onslaught. Done deal. Revamp old Gambit weapons as Onslaught rewards. I.E. Bottom Dollar and Borrowed Time. They aren’t going to be keeping these BRAVE weapons around forever, so some updated Gambit rewards in an actually fun game mode could be good. I like Onslaught, as I’m a PvP player and when I hop in to PvE, I don’t want my only Quickplay PvE options to be Dares. Other than Dares, every other PvE activity is at least 30 minutes and it’s usually sweaty. Like GMs or Dungeons. Raids is just too long of an activity for me, as I have the time but lack the attention span. Onslaught is a game mode that I could genuinely see myself playing. It’s the fun “kill everything power fantasy” game mode that lets you try out a REAL ad clear build. When you think about it, most game modes have either not enough ads or ads that are too strong to kill on bulk. Like for example, in Dungeons and Dares, there isn’t enough enemies to really be able to tap into the ad clear potential of a really good build. And if that wasn’t enough, your teammates will end up killing most of them anyways. In GMs the enemies have too much health for you to be able to bulk ad clear. But in Onslaught, there’s enough enemies for everyone to kill stuff, and they’re not too difficult so that you can’t kill them at all. I’ve been using Voltshot on Ikelos and Thunderlord with Vesper of Radius and Spark of Ions. I never knew how much potential the “Jolt God” idea had in it. For higher levels of Onslaught, Stasis Warlock with Aeon Soul and mass Freeze chaining can really help your team to single out big targets and quickly take them down. I’m also looking into Behemoth with Diamond Lance. The possibilities really are endless, and with Prismatic on the way? Psh, this game mode could be one of the biggest hits Bungie has seen in a while.
