The description says "Casting an empowering rift will grant you devour." It does not mention exclusivity to void.
And you cannot argue that devour should be exclusive to void when you have the following:
1. The exotic sword Heartshadow grants invisibility per full sword energy heavy attacks regardless of subclass. Invisibility being a void identity.
2. One-Eyed Mask and Precious Scars granting overshield regardless of subclass when Bungie have said that they want to keep overshields a void and stasis thing, hence the removal of the overshield from Well of Radiance.
3. Rain of Fire boots can give Radiance regardless of subclass.
Just like overshield and invisibility, it shines best on void subclasses, but that doesn't mean they can't be used on other subclasses. Overshield being a Titan identity, Invisibility being a Hunter identity.
Secant Filaments needs to grant devour regardless of subclass as it enhances the under used empowering rift.
Better yet, buff it to grant the devour buff to teammates on the rift as well to promote its team play effectiveness and allows the Warlocks to distribute the buff just like the other classes with Overshield and Invisibility. This buff can be the Void subclass exclusive and require the usage of Feed the Void aspect.
And I'm just gonna leave this quote from the TWAB as it mentions just Empowering Rift, not Void Empowering Rift
“This started as ‘What can we give Warlocks that would make Empowering Rift a more viable choice in Master+ content?’ We figured the answer was ‘Well, it probably has to heal you’ and eventually we settled on what we called the Devouring Rift pants. Overload was added to increase excitement and expand the options players had to build for various Champion-enabled content.”
Devour + Stasis Turrets would be pretty cracked
-
So that’s what I call #BuffDevour
-
Devour is a void only ability. Radiant can be given to allies so its used on every subclass. Invis is a neutral ability .
-
It’s a void ability, therefore should only proc devour on the void subclass, end of discussion.
-
-
devour = void

Edited by AubsTheBelieber: 6/15/2022 11:52:49 PMNo. Devour has always been void. It is its identity.
-
Radiant devour restoration x3 perpetual healing x6 scorched x69
-
I can however argue that certain exotics are tied to subclasses and conditions while other exotics have their own identity and properties. Heartshadow is a void weapon so it can use void properties just how a hunter can make others invis even though they're not using a void subclass. Certain exotics however seem to be made as to only proc or unlock a power when conditions are met.

Sorry but no
-
Devour is a key word and trait for void automatically implying you will be void when using these.
-
Is the game too difficult? :)
-
Totally agree, Radiant procs with Rain of Fire on non-Solar subclasses, this is no different.
-
I mean I get what you're saying but if No backup plans is still useful only on void even though it changes with the subclass then they aren't gonna make it to where these boots will work on other subclasses. It would be cool but I don't see it happening any time.
-
A little offended that I wasn’t mentioned but bump!
-
Devour with restoration would be broken, even bungo had the sense to see this. Why can’t you? Lol
-
Dude this is an unreal take that I hadnt even thought of after just getting secant. Appreciate u looking out for warlocks my guy
-
Oh this would be dope especially this season classy restoration, and devour while in an empowering rift that would be so strong. Then u add the fragment that keeps giving u restoration as long as u get solar weapon kill. Then u throw on an incandescent calus mini tool u literally won't ever die.
-
Agree. Secant Filaments are cool in that they allow any non intrinsic weapon to be overload but empowering rift is kind of too short, and honestly I don't want to give up my healing, unless I'm running with a team that actually help heals. Now I can use classy resto and slap these on in a solar empowering rift build but before and after I can't/won't be able to. In GM Glassway I was having issues with stuns anyway but that could be boiled down to spawn stun bugs.
-
I agree wholeheartedly. You can be radiant from other people using the solar subclass, so why not get a devour status?? I got cheesed off when I tried this in the new dungeon to help my survivability with one of my newest toys. Not really worth keeping imo
