What a show. Definitely one of my favorite anime’s. The story/plot was 10/10.
Also the fights were super cool.

It’s a pretty good show. I’d probably rate it higher if it weren’t for the fact that I saw the original Full Metal Alchemist series from 2003. For context for those of you that haven’t seen the original FMA series, the first dozen or so episodes of Brotherhood feel very, very rushed. The way it introduces characters, and establishes character relationships, the way certain plot points are introduced and then resolved - everything feels rushed. I’m also not a fan of the way the animation looks in those early episodes, or how the show transitions from serious to silly, and then back again. Brotherhood becomes a significantly better show once it starts covering the new material that original series never had a chance to tell ( this is because the original FMA series was animated before the manga officially finished, so the manga and the show begin to diverge after a certain point, and the original series has a completely different ending. Brotherhood on the other hand is very fateful to the manga ). In many ways FMA is comparable to Game of Thrones, in how both shows began, and how they eventually ended. Brotherhood on the other hand is like a reverse Game of Thrones, where the creators are rushing through the beginning of the show, because they assume most of their audience is already familiar with this story ( because they’ve seen the original show ), and they don’t t care about setting up everything. They only care about telling the new stuff, which is where they start delivering their A-game.

I thought most of the show was absolutely amazing.
The whole conspiracy involving the transmutation circle, Father, Ed's dad, and all of that, was all amazing. I loved most of the characters, including some rando side characters, and their magic system was so simple, yet versatile, and it was amazing. Envy and Pride are my favorite characters. I love them.
Buuuuuuuuut...
The idea of a homunculus regenerating, until they don't, did feel a little cheap. It was basically a way for the writers to say "You can live until the plot decides you don't get to anymore!". There should've been some more solid rules on when they finally kick the can. While I loved digging up all the secrets behind the conspiracy, I felt there was too much that happened after the conspiracy was finally uncovered. Like, the mystery was the core appeal of the show, and once there was no more mystery, I found myself losing interest a little bit. Winry was also a super boring character. I think she had literally one good scene, when she was about to shoot Scar, but that's it. They had a great opportunity to really dive into the cycle of war, but they didn't, and instead Winry became this boring "I am girl" character, who exists for the sole purpose of Ed having a romantic interest. And finally, the ending. Eesh, where to start. The conspiracy was amazing. All the twists and turns, uncovering all these secrets, but right up until the end, they held the most important piece of information from us; what was it all for? It couldn't be for immortality, because Father already had that, from sacrificing Xerxes. And it turns out he wanted to become God. Like, there were plenty of hints throughout the show that God was going to play into the equation somehow, but man, this was the most boring conclusion ever. Father was so creepy, and mysterious, and I loved it, and then his motives turned out to be so flippin' lame. And it was a double whammy, too, because by obtaining the power of God, that last fight scene was terrible. he was literally just standing still most of the time, as everyone tried to attack him. And, a big appeal of the show was its brilliant magic system, but now Father's shooting out Kamehamehas. Ugh. On top of that, they wrote themselves into a corner. Father was literally so powerful, that they clearly had no idea how to have him lose, so he kinda just.. Did? To be fair, though, the bit where Ed got his arm back was pretty awesome, and I did love their solution to human transmutation. So, terrible fight, with a pretty good conclusion.
