People are AFK farming because their options are: 1. Play pre-set activities, some of which they might not even like, that haven't been updated in over a year for some cases across all three characters to gain power for the 5th time; or 2. AFK farm while they watch Netflix and then play what they want after. How am I supposed to enjoy strikes that haven't gotten new loot or even a new strike in almost 2 years? How am I supposed to enjoy Crucible considering its loot is two years old? Same for Gambit, except solo queuing Gambit is the most frustrating experience in the game. And on top of that, all the loot form those activities will be obsolete next season. So I can't blame people for AFK farming at all. This whole system would be much better if all legendaries from all activites could just slowly progress your character and pinnacle activites got you to the end. Or at the very least, update those playlists if they're gonna be a requirement to get into new content.

  • I would enjoy strike so much if I were able to easily play it alone. Currently the only reason for me to queue strikes is bounties yet most of which couldn’t be completed in one strike cause everyone is in it for certain bounties and needs that final blow. What I can do in a strike is kill one or two red bar and the gate boss is dead, run miles to the next counter and kill a few then the counter is cleared, time to run for the next.
Literally the d1 system and I miss it so much. It was "Play how you want and you'll get good stuff. If you care to play the endgame stuff, then that'll get you up to max power." Now it's just a weekly/daily checklist to make sure you're optimizing your power grind.

  • Where we literally ran 3 nf and 9 weekly heroics every week? Ran the same bounties over and over for 3 years? Yeah, not so much. I don't really understand how you think running 20 strikes and hoping you get one drop that's powerful is better than running three over the course of the week and getting one guaranteed. Especially since you can still slow drag everything like you did in d1 anyway if you want to.

  • Because I could play what I felt like doing? I wasnt forced to play strikes of I didnt want to. I wasnt forced to do bounties if I didnt want to. I wasnt forced to do crucible if I didnt want to. I could literally go wherever I wanted and have a pretty good chance at leveling. Plus, you are heavily misrepresenting how it worked, at least at the end of the game. Any, and every legendary drop, up until pinnacle power caps, would be within 3 of your max power, which literally meant you could do anything, have fun, and be rewarded for it.

  • Your progress now playing what you want isn't significantly reduced from d1. How do i know, because That's exactly what i do. The only difference is other purple can progress faster than you while doing bounties and "the checklist" in a particular order. So pardon us if we think you're mad about other people progressing faster than you since that is the actual facts of the game.

That's it right there. That was a system that let us play what we wanted while progressing. That's what people want. The current D2 system just encourages cheese. Sure. People will level legit a few times. But 5 times? Of the exact same content with no updates or new loot? Come on.

  • Did you really play d1? The current system encourages cheese, but d1 didn't? What do you think the loot cave was? The bridge cheese? This game is steeped in a rock history of cheeses, and anyone that thinks that is new is just crazy.

Sure. D1 had it's cheesy moments. But it didn't say "Hey. Go play strikes we haven't updated in 2 years to get a drop that may or may not benefit you. Or yeah. And you have to use this specific subclasses or you don't progress at all." D2 is a checklist. Leveling is a chore. When D1 leveling was at its best, you could play what you wanted how you wanted and still progress your character.

  • Slowly, exactly like you can now. They just added a fast lane for people that don't care to use an ar for 25 kills, while still doing what we want. I spent much of last week carrying a buddy that just picked the game back up, through shadowkeep, and i got the same one over drops i did in d1 when we weren't doing super low level stuff. If peer pressure is making you do the chores don't blame bungie for it. Go play like you want and see what happens. Apparently you'll be surprised.

It isn't a fast lane. It's the only efficient option. Legendaries for vendors don't rank up at all. Legendary drops might drop at +1. Might. In D1, it was up to +3 from any activity. That's a big difference. I'm not gonna preach D1 to be a masterpiece or anything, as we both know it wasn't, but it's leveling system allowed for much more freedom. Heck. At one point in D2 you had to use the same subclass element type as a blueberry in a strike. D1 NEVER had leveling restrictions like that.

  • Absolutely not. That's revisionist history at it's best. You had to use the same subclass, the burn for the week i would like to add which you should be running anyway, to get the weekly. Not to get drops. Remember what happened if you forgot to put your best gear on before decrypting engrams at the cryptarch? Because it doesn't sound like you do. Your engrams would decrypt way below your level. Running arc in an arc strike is restrictive, but having to put on specific gear just to see the cryptarch isn't? Ever have a purple engrams decrypt to blue? That was another really fun aspect of leveling in d1. Not liking parts of d2 is reasonable, but a lot of these are totally ridiculous. You say you hate the leveling because you have to play there way, and when i suggest playing your own way you say it's not efficient enough. You can't have it both ways. Any game with choices Will force you to decide between what's most efficient and what you want to do. D1 did as much if not more than d2.

You missed my point entirely. Bungie has literally laid out a to-do list to progress. Specific activites. Do bounties. Literally "Play this this way." In D1, sure. You did that for the weekly. But you could also get power by just playing whatever you want from engrams. That bit right there, that little detail is completely unavailable in D2. Legendary drops in D1 could be up to +3 power. In D2, vendor drops are capped. Never powerful. Activity rewards are never powerful either. They can be used to "balance out" your character, but that's it. So if I do play the way I want, I don't progress at all. If I play the way they want, I can progress. That's my point.

  • Yeah, i understand your point, and you're wrong. Unless you just want to ruin plain strikes with the wrong subclass for the entire week you will get drops. Crucible, eventually get drops. Gambit, eventually get drops. What is it that is playing your way where you never get drops? I literally always get drops .

You actually don't get the point at all. You cannot play any activity you want how you want and get powerful drops. They'll be used to even pur your power. That's it. Theyvare not a reliable way to progress. They aren't even reliable to progress slowly. They could be used to progress in D1.

  • I'm guessing you haven't played d1 in awhile, or you only have a very limited memory of it. Again, weekday are these activities you like to do that gave you drops in d1 that don't now? Almost every activity gives you guaranteed drops now where it was pure rng in d1. I ran strike after strike and never got anything to level up on several occasions.

I literally leveled up from grinding strikes in D1. I'd use strikes until Iron Banner came around then then infused my best PvP gear and then used that. I'd be as high as I could reasonably get without raids before IB was gone. I'd didn't have a group to raid with all the time and I didn't like LFG. So no. Either your experience was completely different from mine and many others for some reason or you weren't paying attention.

  • Or you don't understand that you can strike to get to the soft cap now, and use ib to get as high as you reasonably can now without raiding too. The difference is minimal at best. Unless you only started playing with taken king or roi.

You don't understand that a potential +1 at terrible RNG from strikes in D2 is not equivalent to the potential +3 D1 engrams provided. Hence the word "reliable" I've been using. You seem to have ignored that.

  • Reliable. Potential. Either you had better rng In d1 than anyone else as worse rng in d2 than anyone else, or you're just romanticizing d1. You also didn't use the word reliable until just a few back. I get exotics, which are powerful, as random open world drops almost as much as the +3 drops you're talking about in d1. If you played a specific random amount of activities solely devised to avoid the weekly powerful and pinnacle drops, your progress wouldn't be significantly slower than d1 playing only strikes. It feels like it to you maybe, you might be mad that people that don't mind whatever can progress faster, but what you said isn't significantly slower. It just feels that way because all that stuff you don't want to do is faster.
