On a quiet, foggy morning in the village of Ulmo, the dwarven guard was walking their normal route. For years now they had all walked the same roads, the same farmer’s paths and crossed the same bridges. Spirits were high, as the spring festival was approaching, and they lowered their guard accordingly.
Joking and drinking, their behavior was not the stellar defense they were being paid for. Blades were unsharpened, helmets unpolished and beards untrimmed, the guards were liked, but ill equipped for what lay in store…
Crossing over the east bridge, the guards wandered to the edge of the village. Taking a moment to reform, then about face-rather sloppily-they headed back towards the village. One of the dwarves thought they noticed movement among the woods, but shrugged their shoulders and joined their fellows.
It is when you least expect it that love happens. Or in this case, tragedy.
As the guards headed back into town, crossing the bridge, everyone heard a scream. Heads turned to see a family running towards the square as zombies limped from the woods. Battering down doors, they invaded the weak, wooden houses. The helpless guards tried to square up across the bridge, but could only watch in horror as hordes of undead spilled into view. Hundreds of skeletons and zombies crawled and limped towards them, groaning and growling like animals. The stench made their stomachs turn, and they beat a retreat as the alarm bells rung.
A few hours later, it seemed as if all hope was lost. Mobs had sprung up from all of the woods around, wandering towards the life of the village. Houses had been torn apart, and more villagers infected.
Ulmo flickered like a dying flame, and then the heroes arrived.
RP begins here. Ulmo is about 20 some miles Northwest of OffTopic, so it's not too long a drive or flight at all.
Out of the woods walked a care-free man in a simple leather jerkin with an attached hood. He had a few small knives visible, but no other weapons. He looked almost unprepared, but Luck was raring to go.
