Weapon retirement gives me no incentive to try.

So, after the release of Taken King in D1, random rolls and weapon infusion throughout the rest of the games life is what kept me engaged and involved with the game. I never ran out of material to grind for, mainly because I was always looking for new and creative ways to gear up for whatever new events came down the line from Bungie. D2, was such a departure from the system I loved that I set the game aside with no intention of returning, however the changes made in Forsaken and Shadowkeep were so overwhelmingly positive, I repurchased the game for PC on steam, and am currently undertaking the grind for new and exciting legendary weapons. With the return of weapon retirement that we saw in the transition of D1 year 1 to year 2, being implemented as a permanent feature for the remainder of D2’s life cycle, I have zero incentive to continue playing. This system essentially devalues any work put into acquiring a specific roll through hours of dedication, thus making continued gameplay pointless. Myself and many of my friends love to spend hours playing Destiny, when we have something to show for it. By retiring weapons, you take that away, along with the motivation to continue playing. If this change does get permanently implemented, I do think this will be the last straw for my faith in the franchise, and will most likely hang up the space magic for good this time. I do hope Bungie heavily considers another way to move forward with weapon economy, because taking away hard work from your player base isn’t the way to do it. With all respect, thank you Bungie for the hard work you’ve done so far, I just beg you not to do this.

I completely agree. I too enjoy looking for creative and interesting ways to use the weapons, even if it isn't "meta" (actually, I rarely care about the meta, but I do enjoy finding what works for me and my role in my teams). The only way I think they can avoid making this an absolutely terrible experience is to significantly improve the experience of farming/grinding for loot. There are a few things I think they can do to accomplish this, actually, but the most important is probably making legendary weapons much more plentiful in the game. If they are going to insist on light cap on infusion, then here's what I would like to see: 1. Multiple legendary weapon per strike. Like, 4-5 legendary weapons per run. I'd like to see mini-bosses and Wanted enemies always drop legendary loot, and then the boss drop both legendary armor and a legendary weapon. Heck, put some hidden chests in strikes as well. 2. Guaranteed legendary loot from heroic public events. This would be a much greater incentive for people to actually finish the heroic public events. 3. Guaranteed legendary loot from lost sector bosses. Even just a single guaranteed legendary drop for a lost sector boss would be better than the current state of affairs. 4. Fixing the collections. Give every single weapon and piece of armor in the game a curated "basic version" roll, then let that basic version be the version we can pull from the collections. Every single exotic, blue, and grey item in the game has a basic, "standard" version. It should be the same for legendary gear as well. I feel like these are basic necessities, if they are going to move forward down this path. Otherwise, the loot drops are simply too rare, and the RNG too frustrating to deal with the grind. If they're going to cycle loot, then make it easier to acquire and use a wide variety of loot.
