Returning Destiny 1 player confused about Account Migration for Destiny 2: First Light

Like the title says, I'm a returning Destiny 1 player (PS4) who's hoping to jump into Destiny 2 for the first time ever with First Light on Steam. I stopped playing Destiny 1 back during The Taken King, but even still I'd like to carry over my old guardians' appearances as well as their Year 1 & Year 2 Triumphs into Destiny 2 which I understand is possible due to this article: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/45967 Now that article said that the Account Migration was carried out back when Destiny 2 originally launched and required no further input from the player. However when booting up First Light today on PC and attempting to setup Cross Save between my old PS4 account and my Steam account, it said that I had no characters to import. My question is, do I need to install Destiny 2 on PS4 and boot it up first in order to get credit for my old Destiny 1 account migration and THEN attempt to do Cross Save with the Steam version? Or can I just go ahead and link the accounts even though no characters are showing up and still get credit?

 • Hello, D1 content is no longer available to transfer to D2; that had to be completed by August of 2017.

That time has LONG PAST it was a one time thing for Xbox and PS4 players at the BEGINNING of D2. So even then PC players will NEVER get that option because D1 wasn't on PC. So when I load up D2 today my old D1 characters will not be there.
