The first sighting of the Mothman dates back to November 12, 1966 when 6 men digging a grave at a cemetery near Clendenin, West Virginia claimed to see a man like creature fly over them. A couple of days later, a couple reported seeing a similar figure, with large moth like wings and large red eyes. Other who have also seen the Mothman also described it as a large bird like creature. After many more sightings and the Silver Bridge collapsed on December 15, 1967, many began to believe that the Mothman’s presence was a sign of impending disaster. However, this has not stopped some residents of West Virginia to popularize the legend and turn Mothman into a bit of a celebrity.
