I think we should upgrade our weapons by using them, similar to D1. And if people are so bent on keeping cores use them to fully upgrade a weapon to a masterwork. If people want to use cores to skip the upgrading process of using the weapon then fine, let them. So in this process I'd get a new gun and I can upgrade it to level 9 by simply using it or if I wanted, I could use cores to upgrade then and there. Then once it's a level 9, I'd have to use cores to fully upgrade it to a level 10, a masterworked gun. This way, we won't use cores upgrading weapons we don't know if we really like if we didn't choose to. This also keeps the cores if people are so bent on keeping them and uses them in a similar sense people are use to. Keep the way in which we obtain cores the same as it is now, weekly clan rewards, random drop, scrapper bounties, etc. Oh and the new gunsmith bounties I've heard about should still be implemented as well. Thoughts?

I just think they need to simplify the whole economy. D1’s at the end was pretty much perfect. Cores need to be like Motes of light. Motes dropped from all activities and all Legendary and Exotic dismantlements. The progression system needs to be like D1 AoT. Play anything, all drops are at least 1 higher than current average. Only way to get to max is through endgame activities, IB, Raids, Trials, Nightfalls and whatever horde mode is currently in vogue.

  • Listen, copy paste this elsewhere and get their attention. The D1 system was fine. Cores can stay and the equipment can be leveled up to a point as you stated.

  • Um...is this a good idea that only solves half the problem? I mean, what about armor? Sorry if I missed that part!

  • Didn't play D1? If you did you wouldn't ask this question

  • I did, top 1-2% under another name, but I also don’t remember this bit. My bad. Are we assuming we’ll be able to not only infuse armor without cores, but infuse armor across classes?

  • All your equipment gained experience by killing things. Motes also gave experience.

I'd address this to the CMs in its own thread. Its a solid idea---is a better idea than anything Bungie's come up with-----and doesn't deserve to get buried in a protest thread like this. (This isn't a discussion, this is a thread to keep all the anger contained to one location).

  • I don't frequent these forums all too often and am a little unsure how to address the CMs or where the best place to do so. Might be able to figure it out on my computer later, this app just isn't super user friendly. I do think this would be the best compromise and can't see too many issues anyone should have with it. Obviously needs some fine-tuning of course, but I think it's a step in the right direction for sure

  • It’s the best idea I’ve seen that doesn’t involve removing core, and it addresses directly what I think Bungie has been trying to achieve with trickery.

  • This is a great idea and a solid compromise. Bungie, meet us in the middle.

  • Reasonable compromise....but cores would still need to be more plentiful. But it would get Bungie the engagment they want.....and the player base the predictability and responsiveness to player investment that we want. You'd have a progression system again, instead of a progression slot machine.

  •
Reasonable compromise....but cores would still need to be more plentiful.
Agreed. They've definitely gotten a lot better, but with keeping every available option we have to obtain them currently, as well as the new gunsmith bounties they've talked about, and the ability to use guns to upgrade them and possibly scrap for more cores, it should add enough availability to them in works with a new system such as the one I've recommended

  • No. That process is fine for guns you know you want but makes it harder to compare a new weapon to one you've fully upgraded.

  • Disagree. If you've played enough to be here complaining about cores, you've played enough to have a pretty good idea what each of the perks do. ...and a sense of whether or not its worth investing time in a weapon.

  • Nope. Take too pulse rifles with identical perks can still perform vastly different.

  •
Nope. Take too pulse rifles with identical perks can still perform vastly different.
For the most part they work similar. Maybe different for different frames and archetypes, but using a weapon to gradually upgrade it should give you enough sense of whether you'd want to continue to upgrade or scrap it. The main focus would be the cores you'd save upgrading with use of the weapon rather than using cores to upgrade a weapon only to find out you don't really like using it.

  • Not really. Not in this game.

  • How's that any different than the system we have now? A fully masterworked gun vs a 1 masterwork gun you pick up? At least in the system I've laid out you'd be able to upgrade that gun by simply using it, which is how you'd figure out if you liked it anyway. You'd also be able to use cores like the system we have now to upgrade if you so choose. My system wouldn't change things for people who like it the way it is now, it would allow them to continue to use cores to upgrade, similar to D1 system using motes of light to upgrade instead of using the weapon itself to do so. I'd also love to see a "shooting range" somewhere at the Tower where you could test your weapons on targets and maybe even moving targets, but that's another discussion.

  • No. Thats stupid. Everyone hated how long it took to level up a gun in D1. Enhancement cores need to be removed from the infusion process. Its just that simple. They should be for Masterworking a weapon or armor only just like in Year1. The community is punished because a handfull of individuals discovered exploits and now have thousands of enhancement cores which infects the data.

  • Upgrading a weapon in D1 wasn’t that bad. For instance, Super Good Advice could be fully upgraded with 8 motes of light (5 or 6 motes if you used a MG Telemetry). The only difficulty was with the year 1 raid gear that required Raid material to upgrade and that was only a problem if you didn’t raid. True, enhancement cores should be completely removed, but that’s most likely not going to happen. This is a compromise that Bungie should be able to live with, but as stubborn as they appear to be I don’t think they will. There have been reasonable suggestions made over many months now and they have ignored them all. They would rather kill the game than give up cores. This is just my opinion, but I see cores as a small part of a bigger issue. Leveling up is completely screwed up and in need of an overhaul. It’s the reason I stopped playing.

  •
Enhancement cores need to be removed from the infusion process. Its just that simple.
In a perfect world, yes. But this is a means by which you effectively remove them from the process, if you're willing to invest time in the weapon. This is a way that everyone gets what they need....even if we don't get some of what we want. Which is the mark of a good compromise.

  • I didn't think it took long at all to upgrade weapons in D1. In my system, you wouldn't HAVE to use it to upgrade, you could also use cores like you do now to skip that process. I'd honesty love to see cores go away completely as well, but there's a good many that don't want them to go away so I'm trying to find good middle ground here. Using a weapon to upgrade would still need some working out, like how long do you have to use it and what would you need to do with it. Kills obviously to further progress and multikills and precision kills should progress it even further. In any case I wouldn't want it to be some insane grind like for a weapon quest. It should be simple and a fairly quick process.

  • Or level one up and break it into cores.
