Aifos Tonight—A weekly general gaming post (2)

Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from Aifos Tonight! *crowd cheers* As you all know, I’m a big fan of jedi. Their fancy laser swords, and weird rock moving powers, it’s all pretty cool! So, for this week on Aifos Tonight, I decided to bring in a jedi as our guest! Introducing Starkiller! *crowd cheers! An interview with Galen “Starkiller” Marek.
Starkiller: “Thanks, Aifos, I’m glad to be here.” And we’re glad to have you, Starkiller. I hope you don’t mind, but I’m going to jump straight to the elephant in the room. You used to be a sith assassin that hunted down jedi, correct? Starkiller: “Yes. I worked for Darth Vader.” *crowd mumbles* Wow, Lord Vader himself? That’s quite the rank! You must be pretty skilled at fighting jedi then? Starkiller: “Never met one I couldn’t beat.” Impressive. I think I know one! Ever heard of Rey? I hear taking down Starkillers is her forté! *audience laughs* Starkiller: “I’m not entirely sure what you mean, but hey, maybe we can spar sometime.” I’m sure she wouldn’t mind. As long as you don’t blow up the entire republic anyway! *audience laughs* Starkiller: “What are they lauging at?” And you’d better be careful you don’t fall apart while you’re fighting! *audience laughs* Starkiller: “Like emotionally, or..” *audience laughs* Starkiller: “Alright, ENOUGH! What are they all laughing at, these jokes of yours don’t even make any sense!” Calm down, Starkiller! It’s just the First Order—oh, er, these guys who are basically the empire build a weapon called a Starkiller Base. Starkiller: “What!?” Yeah, imagine the Death Star, but even bigger! Don’t worry, though, Rey will- *glass shattering* Oh no! My larger than I’ll ever need window, overlooking a beautiful nighttime city backdrop! Starkiller why would you—GALEN! *Starkiller jumps out the window* *A few moments later, the Rogue Shadow flies upwards into view, Starkiller standing on its back* Starkiller: “Juno, I know our next mission!” Juno: “Yeah, that’s bat I assumed when you dramatically jumped out the window onto the back of the ship. Where are we headed?” Starkiller: “The empire’s building another super weapon, this one even bigger and more dangerous than the Death Star! I don’t know where it is, but I’ve got a lead! A jedi named Rey!” Juno: “Seems no matter where we go we’re hunting jedi. Alright, let’s get moving.” Wait, who’s gonna pay for my win- *Rogue Shadow takes off* -dow...
Oh geeze, that’ll be expensive.. Um, nevermind that, let’s move on! An Eye(fos) on the Future! Indivisible
Indivisible is an upcoming turn based RPG being made by Lab Zero, the developers behind Skullgirls. The fighting system won’t be your standard turn based system, though. It uses a combo system similar to a fighting game, revolving around chaining attacks between your party together. I’ve never played it, but I’ve heard it might be like a game called Valkyrie Profiles. The overworld will bea platformer. While I’m not 100% sure, it almost looks like a Metroidvania! It looks really great!
Omigosh I’m so hyped! Aah! I mean.. *ahem* Doesn’t that game sound just lovely? I’ll keep y’all updated on it! Moving on! The Sound of OSTs Six’s Theme (Part 2)-Little Nightmares
This delightfully creepy song plays during the ending sequence of Little Nightmares, a dark whimsy horror game developed by Tarsier Studios. Actual discussions of the ending aside, this song is what made it awesome! The game is just as delightfully creepy as the song, and I’d definitely recommend it! (Credits to Ghostmime & Bopsheezi for getting this song in my head again)
What a beautiful song. Totally has not ever given me nightmares! Not even little ones! And I have definitely never had trouble going to sleep because it’s been stuck in my head, and freaked me out! Never! Let’s.. Let’s move on to our final segment! The Name Change I Requested For That Segment Where I Tell You About Cool Games You Should Try! Sheesh, that titles even worse! Ugh, anyway. Yar’s Revenge (2011)
Back on the Atari, there was a game called Yar’s Revenge. You played as a blotch of pixels who shot other blotches of pixels with pixels. Each pixel that hit a pixel destroyed it, letting you get closer, and once you were close enough you could destroy all the pixels. How that translated into a race of fly people fighting an intergalactic war, don’t ask me. But back in 2011 we got a version of this game that did make sense! Rather than a fly person, they made the protagonist Yar a four armed, but otherwise human looking woman, who flew around on a mech suit, using her wide variety of weapons to shoot down opponents, including dual pistols, a missile launcher, and a rail gun. It was on on rail shooter, so Yar would fly around herself while you focused on dodging and shooting. It wasn’t that long, but was a load of fun, and for me at least, loads of replayability! Sadly, though, it’s not current gen. If I remember, its price was $10-$15.
Now that game brings back some memories! Hopefully it becomes backwards compatible! But unfortunately, we’re out of time! So that’s all for now, folks! Jambuhbye!

 • You know, since this is a general gaming thread, there's something I did want to talk about. I've recently started Dragon Quest IX on Nintendo DS for the first time, and it's really hammered home how much I want Pokémon to be party-based instead of 1v1. I knew that was the main reason I've been disappointed in the Pokémon series anyway, ever since I moved from Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Darkest Dungeon to Pokémon: Ultra Moon. At its core, Dragon Quest IX is a multiplayer game. I'm supposed to be playing with friends, a point which the game made clear when the Wight Knight destroyed me even though I was technically overlevelled, all because I was alone and he could out-heal any damage I dealt to him. When I returned back to the Quester's Rest, I realised I could summon NPC companions to help me out, and equip them with any weapons and armour I wanted (as long as they were the right class for it.) Thing is, they start out at level 1 and I'm level 12. So before I can go back to the Wight Knight boss battle, they need levelling. And what I realised, was that even at level 1 they made normal enemy encounters much easier. So even though I haven't gone back to the Wight Knight, I know it's going to be both easier and more fun. This is why Pokémon doesn't interest me anymore. I enjoyed the fifty-or-so hours I spent on Ultra Moon last year, largely for the catching and training part of the game, but it was boring whenever I had to battle. I like Alola's Pokémon designs - vikavolt, mimikyu and decidueye in particular. And the actual creature design is always what pulls me in. But despite this, I didn't really feel anything when I finished the game and started something else. Like I normally do when I finish a game. And the reason is that every. Single. Battle. Basically came down to "hit the guy with the one damage dealing move and watch him go down in one hit." There's no synergy or real tactics or strategy involved. Healing moves are useless. Buffs and debuffs are useless. It literally just came down to using the most powerful damage dealers, and having a variety of types. And going into online pvp, it was the same. Either my opponent went down in one hit, or I did. Although at least there in pvp, speed mattered too. And I don't mean to bash Pokémon, because I love turn-based RPGs. I just think that genre only works when the game is also party-based. I mean, if Pokémon was party-based, I would actually have a use for healing moves and a support Pokémon. It wouldn't necesarily make the game easier or harder, and it could still be the casual friendly game it's always supposed to be. But it would be more engaging for people who want something more from an RPG. But I guess that's just me, and we're all different! I just wanted to speak a bit about it.
