Aifos Tonight—A weekly general gaming thread (1)

Good evening everybody! This is Aifos coming to you alive from Aifos Tonight! This weekly post series (who knows how long I’ll keep that up) will simply be a place to talk about video games. What games you’re playing, what you’re excited for, cool moments you’ve had, so on, so forth. Of course, I’ll still post more specific gaming threads every now and then as well, but I thought we needed more general talk, so here I am! And, what better way to kick this off than with everyone’s favorite zombie? Yes, that’s right! We’ve got a very special guest star tonight; Sienna Contiello! An interview with Sienna “Squigly” Contiello (Skullgirls)
Squigly: “Thank you Aifos, but you can just call me Squigly.” Of course. Now, Squigly, I just want to start off by saying I’m so sorry about what happened to your family. You were opera singers, correct? Squigly: “Thank you. And yes, we were. Have you ever been to one of our shows?” I’m afraid not. It was 14 years ago when it happened, I was only 7 at the time. I know age is a touchy subject for undead, but I do have to ask, how old are you, then? Squigly: “Well, I’m technically 28, but I was dead for 14 of those years, so I still like to say 14.” Dead for 14 years, and your skin still looks like you just walked out of a beauty salon. What’s your secret? How do you keep your skin so smooth even after 14 years of decomposing? Squigly: “Well, I have a magic dragon sticking out of my head, so that’s probably part of it.” Of course, Leviathan, I should’ve known. That’s where you get your nickname, right? The way he pokes out of your head like a worm? Squigly: “Yes.” Didn’t you have that nickname before you died, though? Squigly: “Of course.” But didn’t you get Leviathan from your father only moments before you were shot? Squigly: “Yes. Why?” So if you received Leviathan on your death bed, and the name Squigly comes from Leviathan, how did you have it when you were alive? Squigly: “I.. Uh..”
Well, that’s all the time we have for that, let’s move on to our next segment! The Sound of OSTs Off to Sleep, Child of Light
Off to Sleep is the credits song for Child of Light, a turn based RPG pubished (and developed?) by Ubisoft. The song is calm & relaxing, and is always nice to listen to when you’re winding down. As the title suggests, it’s also not bad to help you fall asleep. Of course, this is true for most of Child of Light’s OST, and I’d definitely recommend giving it a listen.
What a pretty song for such a pretty game. But, heard it, lived it, loved it, let’s move on, shall we? Storytime with Aifos All’s Well that Ends Well (Left4Dead2)
I, as Ellis, was playing with my friend, as Nick, and my brother, as Coach, on the map Hard Rain. For the most part, things were good. We made it all the way to the end with little trouble. The boat had arrived, and we were getting ready to leave. As we were running to the boat, my brother got held up behind. Seeing he was having trouble, me & my friend turned to help him.. Until a Tank came through the door. With a heavy heart, we decided to run to the boat, leaving him to die. I made it on first, when a Jockey jumped onto my head, and started trying to pull me into the water. My friend turned his attention from the Tank and shot the Jockey off me, and I returned the favor by shooting as fast as I could at the Tank. And we did it, the Tank went down, my friend was only an inch away from the boat.. When I shot a few more bullets, thinking the Tank was still alive. They flew right into him, and he collapsed onto the ground. With him only inches away from the boat, it took off, leaving both my friend, and my brother to die.
Who doesn’t love a heartwarming story about the power of friendship, huh? Well, we are almost out of time, but before we go, let’s quickly do arguably the most important segment on this show; Games You Probably Haven’t Tried But I Think You Should Because They’re Fun Eesh, Papika, remind me to change that title. Anyway, *ahem*... Legend of the Dark Witch 1 & 2 (PC & 3DS)
Although the final game in the trilogy might have dropped the ball, the first two games in this side scrolling platformer series are a blast! They are, by all means, Mega Man clones. You play the levels in any order, unlock a new power for beating the boss, amd take that new power into other levels. However, the game mixes things up with the Tres system. By spending Tres dropped by enemies, you can obtain temporary upgrades for your current life. Extra damage, extra speed, the ability to hover, that sort of thing. The first game is all about balancing Trea usage on upgrades, and your extra powers, as they both use the same mana source, while the second adds a Capacity gauge that drains exclusively from your extra powers. If you’re looking for a good Mega Man clone, or just a good side scrolling platformer in general, the Dark Witch franchise is a good place to look! Just stay away from the third one!
Tl;dr? Here’s my point! But what about you? Got any game recommendations? Some good stories to share? Some favorite songs for us to hear? Let’s just talk about video games! Any video game you want, yes, even Destiny! But in any case, that’s all for now, folks! Jambuhbye!

 • Oh man, I've been looking forward to this post! *ahem* While I won't match your topics one-to-one, I will at least match you in some. First, a short story of what I've been playing. Actual spoilers for FFVIII in the spoiler, though it's a 20 year old game now.
So, when I was growing up, I had a lot of issues in the home. Parents who didn't love each other, issues with school, etc. Video games were my escape, and one I gravitated to a lot was Final Fantasy VIII (big surprise right? It seems all I do is talk about these games, but where it not for VIII I likely wouldn't play games for anything more than a temporary escape.) I don't know what it was, but I related to Squall at least a little, felt alone in a world full of people. I was horrible at the game, mostly because I was young and didn't understand the mechanics of the game (I won't get into those now, or else I might fill up this post with technical vomit lol.) I played through the game at a slow pace, and eventually made it to a certain boss fight with the recurring characters Fujin and Raijin, the lackeys to one of the antagonists Seifer. This battle was hard for me. Like I said before, I didn't understand the mechanics of the game, so I could only be so strong. I struggled with this back to back boss fight, and eventually put the game down. I pick it back up in middle school, when depression hit me hard for the first time. I understand the mechanics now, and make it back to the fight. I barely win, after a few attempts, and the game crashes. I try again, the game crashes. I couldn't get past the same fight from my early childhood, for a different reason now. As such, again the game was put down. Cut to now, as I go through all the Final Fantasy games one by one, I finally hit FFVIII. An adult now, I know the mechanics and how to use them properly. As I get past the spot I was stuck at for most of my life, the 8 year old me and 13 year old me along with me are all interested to see where the story goes. 8yo me watches for Squall, 13 to see the things he only heard of, and I to finally see the end of a game that defined my childhood. As of 11:30 PM EST, 4/15/2019, I have finally beaten the game I love. It's not the best FF, not by a long shot. But it will always hold a special place in my heart. After my marathon is over, it will be one of the first I revisit. Also, anything after the revelation of Lunatic Pandora makes no sense. We have to let the evil sorceress come to the present so we can send her to the past, so that she can fulfill her goal of time compression, so we can go to the future to kill her! Excuse me what?
Whoooo boy, that went on a lot longer than I planned. Sorry about that. Anyway, OST? OST!!! This week I'll go with Eyes On Me, from Final Fantasy VIII - https://youtu.be/4qcW0oiLKHg Oh no, he's on this game again! That's twice in one post! Yeah sorry about that, but it's important to me, and I kind of need this today. I won't make a habit of it. I don't usually like stuff like this, but I'll be damned if this one doesn't get me for some reason. Next, games you probably haven't played. Since you mentioned the Dark Witch series (first game was great, never got around to the second), I'll talk about a similar series, called Rosenkreuzstilette (woah, what a name!) Like the Dark Witch games, these are like Megaman, though these are far more like a rip off, rather than inspired. This is just Megaman with witches and fairies instead of robots. I actually speedrun the second game, well I used to, but I plan on doing so again! They are a ton of fun if you like Megaman, containing two playable characters per game, one more like Megaman, and another melee styled character. They are only on PC, though they could probably run on a toaster if it had a screen. Man this got a lot longer than I thought it would, sorry about that again! If you made it through this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, and I hope the RNGoddess blesses you with good rolls in the future!
