Wasn’t that back in Vanilla Destiny? After they added more pathways to max light the only complaints I remember were from people who didn’t like having to farm materials which caused Bungie to then put in a sales counter at the tower and then undercut the turn in value to factions. As far as that I remember there weren’t too many complaints other than those who were against the the elitist mentality that was birthed during Vanilla which has never died. You remember the “must be lvl 30 with _____, _____ and Ghorn.” Those types are the people who really put the screws to casuals who wanted to try but gave up due to the laundry lists of requirements to join LFG teams. After that infusion wasn’t a problem. I remember etheric light being a little scarce but that was just for old guns that people didn’t want to get rid of. Infusion was pretty crap before I quit playing in Feb. So was RNG. You can’t up your light if you go over 2 months with 70-80% of your drops being class items. Also, that kinda crap RNG doesn’t make you want to play more. It makes you feel like playing less. Cores should stay for Masterworking as that was their original purpose and Bungie should either recycle another old material from Destiny or create a new one that isn’t tied to RNG for infusion. Level ups should give you 2-5 pieces of infusion material just like we used to get motes of light for leveling up which I think is where Bungie went wrong. Infusion should’ve never been left to RNG, that was just idiotic. If they want cores to be used in a “meaningful” way they should be used for masterworking and re-rolling weapon/armor perks.

  • The way I see it is there needs to be a balance. Want cheap easy infusion? Ok, fair, but then powerful rewards should be limited. And I mean really limited. As it stands we have something like over 30 per character a, WAY Too much to have cheap infusion. On the flip side, we have the system now. Plenty of powerful drops, but a bigger grind to infuse them. Whether people like it or not, being short on cores does provide a decision, as you have to CHOOSE what and when to infuse your gear up. Having both combined gets us what we had in y1, with a mass exodus of players because hey can grind up to max in 1-2 weeks and then get bored.

  • I think you’re missing out on why people left in y1. And I honestly believe it had very little to do with infusion. True, many hardcore type players were salty about it and threatened to quit over it but everyone else was angry over static rolls, double primRies and everything else that was stupid about the game design that took a year to correct. It didn’t matter how often things dropped if everything that dropped was the same. I think masterworking and mods should be what is “meaningful” when using gear but I also think Bungie should’ve made better design choices when creating the two. I think applying mods( if we had better mods) would be the “pinnacle” of the weapon/armor because those are your personal tweaks to the weapons. Those are the “meaningful” changes to a basic item that anyone can find within the Bungie lottery system and “your personal gun” but when I last played there weren’t many “meaningful” mods to get nor where there any real ways to get items to buy mods unless you circumvented or worked the system. Powerful rewards. By this are you saying anything over your current level is “powerful” or are you speaking of exotics? Destiny didn’t give you everything. I was a solo player for most of my 2k+ hrs and I worked very hard and grinned the crap out of any and every method I could get my solo ass in to get higher level gear. It was slow but it was possible because the RNG wasn’t totally against you. I went over 2 months in 2 of having 70-80% of my weekly drops being class items. That killed any desire I had to play this game on top of my limited cores found. Having cores tied to RNG was fracking stupid l and if they’re still mostly tied to RNG it’s still stupid. Perhaps if you are guaranteed at least one core from dismantling things that would be ok. If you were guaranteed a matterweave every few dismantles when that would be a ok. I don’t know what’s changed in two months but the system was broken and heavily favored those who were willing to invest time in a system designed to kick you in the crotch while playing. Most people will only let themselves be kicked in the crotch so many times before they say “enough”. The way I see it a balance is needed but not by your standards. A balance is needed for the consumer base. Do you continue to piss on the larger chunk of your consumers who want to invest tome but don’t feel they’re rewarded for it or do you continue catering to those who’d invest time regardless if you kicked them in the crotch every time they played because they can’t get enough of the bullshit that is Destiny 2? I loved the game but I don’t love it enough to get crapped on every time I log in. There are way too many games out there to spend time playing over wasting my time on a system like that.
