In old school MMOs, devs would do things like this and we LOVED IT.
There was an enormous saga in asherons call where PvPers on one server fought defending the enemies, which stopped the story from progressing. Of course, they wouldn't have the story out of sync on one server from the other 7, so the entire community sat in suspense watching. It lasted weeks. They had to have outside mules bring them spell ingredients, foods, etc.
This event stuff is awesome, it's just been wasted on the most shallow generation of gamers.
But alas, video games have been infinitely dumbed down. And worse, gamers have been even more dumbed down to the point that when a dev tries to implement something similar, and to a much lesser extent, they whine about it and accuse the Dev of withholding content.

Yea I think most people forget this isn’t a single player, first person shooter like halo was. It’s an evolving world with a community of players. I personally think this is awesome and hope they do it more often instead of sticking to this some what linear story path they’ve had previously, where it’s a huge community of players but it always felt like you were the only guardian.

I think Destiny just isn't the game to do those kinds of things with. Destiny doesn't have a good track record and people aren't happy with them, so it's not the best idea with that in mind. I don't mind puzzles and things, it's just...i not only don't want to wait for that, but there's pretty much no way I could solve it on my own. If it were a bit more simple, sure then it would be fine, but this puzzle is so convoluted and there are like no hints or clues.

Yeah, so the entire community needs to come together to figure it out, like what they did in D1 multiple times and what tons of MMOs have done. It's awesome. Why isn't destiny the right place for it? Because the hive mind decided to bash the franchise at any cost? Wouldn't that be the reason it should do some things that are different and have a greater level of depth?

Like I said, I don't dislike it, just that something like that isn't something I desire and a lot of others don't either. To them it doesn't add depth as it feels more like a cop out, which is something not unfamiliar. If you like it, that's fine, but I don't care about these sort of things and I certainly didn't ask for it.
