VANGUARD INTERROGATION LOG-3718

VANGUARD INTERROGATION LOG-3718b SUBJECT: DRESHNA ~INITIATE PLAYBACK~ Z: Ahem *Silence* Z: Do you know why you are here? D: I can take a guess. Though I am wondering why you didn't just kill me and be done with it. Z: Indeed, there are those among us who would ask that very same question. We've had others like you before but your case is... different. D: Not the first time I've been called that. You want to get to the point shiny head? Z: If you insist. We've tried talking to your ghost but- D: She okay? Z: That depends on you. She won't speak to us so it seems you have a lot of explaining to do. D: Seems like. So where d'you want to start? Z: As far back as you deem necessary to explain your actions. If the vanguard is not satisfied we will have to take this further. D: Well, clear your schedule buddy cause if you want answers we're gonna have to go all the way back and believe me, that's gonna take a while. Z: Very well, let me hear your story. ~BEGIN PART 2~ Z: That's enough, I think you've made your opinion on the matter abundantly clear. Please return to your tale, I believe you were speaking about the hive. D: Sure, right. I was watching one of my regular crews when it happened, they'd just dug up the remains of a golden age fighter and were squabbling over who got to it first. Then there's that awful noise. Moan? Shriek? I don't know what to call it but if you've fought the hive you know the sound, feels like your soul just up and left you cause it ain't brave enough to stick around. The Eliksni seem to know whats up cause they drop what they're doing and run. They don't get very far though cause the ground starts dropping out under their feet, you ever heard a vandal scream? I don't mean the "Gah this titan broke my leg that hurt." kinda scream, I mean the "Oh god kill me before it gets any worse!" kind of scream. I couldn't see anything but by those sounds I really don't think I wanted to. There's a moment or two of silence after that, the Eliksni that survived are half way up walls, beams, silos, anything off the ground. I'm about to get the hell out of there when I hear more screams, not like the last ones though, this is a war cry. Then thrall start pouring outta those holes like Hornets from a flaming nest... Guess that's why we call them the Hive huh? Z: Indeed. D: Anyway they start ripping vandals and dregs off the walls, the few that didn't drop their guns open fire but it just gets swallowed by the swarm. This isn't a fight, it's a massacre. A few thrall turn towards me and I realise at this point I've stood up, that old dregs shock blade clenched in my fist. The battery died a few days prior but I can feel it humming with arc energy, I step down from my perch and start walking towards the hive. I can't tell you what I was thinking cause honestly I don't think I was. They start rushing towards me and I keep moving towards them, a slow steady pace. The head of the group gets about ten feet from me when I swing my blade out, in the blink of an eye I'm right next to the bastard with my dagger buried in his chest. It lights up with the arc and sparks to at least a dozen other thrall, they vapourise on the spot. Now I can hear the Eliksni shouting out, "Zer sha bo! E zer sha bo!" That's their name for you guys by the way, though I didn't know or care at the time. I was just laying into these hive like there was no tomorrow, hell for all I knew there wasn't one. All I cared about was showing those bastards they picked the wrong crew to mess with. Z: You defended the fallen? After they had attacked and killed you? D: You don't understand, the moon wasn't the buzzing patrol space it is today. For all I knew it was just me and the Eliksni out there and traveller be damned was I gonna let the hive take them away from me. The devil you know am I right? Z: I suppose... D: Hmh, sure you do. Unfortunately the damn idiots start shooting at me instead of the hive. I tried to focus on the swarm but when a captain gets up in your face with a pair of shock blades there's only so many ways you can make it out in one piece, most of em ain't friendly. I can't tell you how long I was there just swinging away, felt like minutes but it could have been hours, the hive just kept coming. The fact that I was lit up like an arc themed christmas tree probably didn't help but still, crazy bastards got no fear. Eventually the tide stemmed, maybe they gave up or its possible I buried them under the ashes of their goddamn friends, either way the energy running through me zaps out and I just collapse. My ghost pops out and starts telling me about the light and that guardians like me are special cause we can wield it as a weapon. She says how impressive it is that I seem to have gotten the hang of certain elements so quickly but I'm just lying there looking at the bodies of the Eliksni I gutted and the Hive I turned to ash thinking "Is that all I am? A weapon?" Z: Guardians are more than just mere soldiers, we fight for those unable to fight for themselves. We fight to protect the light and everything it stands for. D: Shove your self-righteous statements up your ass. You're killers, you bring death wherever you go. I should know, I'm one of you. Z: I hope there's more reason than this as to why you- D: Alright fine, let me get back to my story. Eventually I pick my sorry ass up and see exile skiffs heading my direction, that's bad news for all involved so I slip back into the shadows and try laying low again. Turns out I had no idea how much the Eliksni hate a guardian's guts, they wouldn't stop looking for me. Gave them the slip more often than not but had to fight my way out a couple of times. And the hive never settled down, every time I cleared some out they'd come back twice the number, like goddamn weeds. Theena and I decided it was time to jump ship and find a way to earth before things got any worse. Unfortunately neither one of us knew a damn thing about fixing golden age flight tech and I didn't fancy my odds piloting a stolen skiff or god forbid a tombship, so that left only one option if we wanted to head planetside. Z: That's perposterous. You're telling me you- D: Yessiree, I rode all the way to Earth in a Hive seeder. ~END PART 2~
