The Dark Guardian - Chapter 26: Monster Hunter Paracausal

Location: Dreadnaught, Savathun's throne Ian's POV As I strode past the corpses of the acolytes I had just killed, I took a break to reload my guns and reflect on what I had done. A while back, I came across a sort of armory, where I leaped at the chance to gear up. I grabbed a suit of Harrowed Darkhollow armor and assessed the rack of guns. As I reached for a Hand Cannon, I recalled the dark shotgun detonating in my hand and hesitated. But then I wondered, "What would happen if I filled the gun with Light?". Not really having an idea on how to do this, I simply filled my hand with light and grabbed the weapon's grip. Immediately, I knew something was different. Aiming down the sights, I pulled the trigger- and the gun fired without blowing up in my face. Heartened by this revelation, I repeated the process with a sniper rifle and an LMG. Since the weapons were so radically different now that they were free of corruption, I decided to rename them. I christened the hand cannon Umbra Venandi, the sniper rifle Dualitatem and the machine gun Piaculo Sit. With new weapons and armor, I set off to continue with my purpose: the extermination of the remaining Walkers. Third Person POV Having finished reloading all weapons, Ian headed onwards until he heard a yell of pain and barely suppressed rage "IAN! That's far enough!" Ian turned to see none other then Cameron, his erstwhile Titan friend. As a Guardian, he had be a dependable anchor, always reminding us of why we fought. Now, he was a barely controllable killing machine, always hungering for light. There was no question of what the hunter had to do now. "Cam, hello. How are you doing? Well, I hope?" The Titan snarled in hatred. "No small talk. What happened with Sara?!" Ian's false smile fell. "Ah, so you saw that. It had to be done." "She was our friend, you bastard! She was our friend and you murdered her!" Ian drew his machine gun, resigned to his task. "Are you to do something about it?" Can unslung his minigun and threw it away. "What do you think? I'll tear you limb from limb and feast on your carcass!" Cam suddenly bent over, as if wracked by some great agony. There were multiple audible cracks as his bones broke and reformed in seconds. His nails shot outwards, becoming beastial talons. His teeth lengthened into wolfish fangs, and his eyes turned as black as the void of space. Darkness began to exude from his mouth and eyes, clouding the air in a fog of shadow. When the transformation was complete, Cam released an inhuman roar of hunger and fury. As Ian looked up at the beast, he shifted his grip on his weapon. "You've to got be kidding me." As Can lashed out with one of his arms, Ian dodged backwards, firing wildly from his LMG as he did so. Every bullet found it's target, but they seemed to have no effect on the Dark beast barreling towards him. Unfortunately, his weapon had a limited number of rounds, and he had to run out eventually. When he did, Cam took the opportunity, ripping the weapon from the Hunter's hand and using it as a club, sending Ian flying several feet backwards. As he tried to stagger to his feet, he was pinned to the ground, Cam leering over him. "Any last words?" Ian felt a great reserve of power welling within himself, and without any thought, he unleashed it. "Yeah, this isn't over yet." "Oh, yes it has. It's been over since this started." As Cameron knelt down to devour Ian's light, he was interrupted by two bullets slamming into his skull. He recoiled in surprise, and when he looked to where the shots came from, he looked twice to be sure. Ian was on the ground in front of him, so how in hell was he off on the side? Wait... There were THREE of him?! Cam looked to where Ian was lying, and he was still there. But there were still two other clones of Ian, one garbed in white and gold armor with piercing blue eyes, and the other cloaked in ebony and silver with an insane look in eyes that seemed to be carved from amethyst "What is this?" Can growled. "How did you do this?" "Well," explained Ian as he struggled to his feet. "When I killed Sara, I absorbed some of her power, allowing me to summon these two. Cameron, meet Puritas and Caries. One of the two ethereal beings, Puritas spoke. "Enough introductions, this abomination must be disposed of now! His counterpart, Caries, followed Puritas' statement with his own, adding: "Yes, it's time we slaughter this laughable lumbering lapdog. But how? Bullets, blades,- oh, yes yes yes!" He shrieked in delight as he noticed Cam's discarded minigun. The shade sprinted over and grabbed it from where it lay. "Now we can get to the blood and butchering! Sound good?" Cam roared in frustration. "I don't care how many of you there are, I'll kill all of you where you stand!" Caries cackled in glee, and Cam's blood froze as he realized just how insane the entity was. "You can't kill us! Watch!" Spinning around to face his twin, Puritas aimed his rifle and fired a bullet into Caries' head. The doppelganger staggered back, nearly falling. Then as if nothing had happened, he straightened, displaying an intact cranium. He cackled again, the sound reverberating through the hall. "You see?! We're immortal!" Cam snarled. "Maybe you are, but he isn't!" With that, Cam leaped at Ian, trying to capture him. His prey dodged just out of reach, so the Titan landed on nothing. Immediately afterwards, Cam felt thousands of dull impacts as his own weapon was used against him, the insane shadow laughing all the time. He couldn't endure this forever. If he didn't kill the hunter, he would be the one to die. As he looked forwards, he saw Ian less than 3 feet away. As he tried to comprehend why Ian would get so close, he saw the barrel of a Hand Cannon an inch from his eyes. The Titan heard the click of the hammer, and the last thing he saw was a gout of fire erupting from the muzzle. Ian's POV "Aww, that's no fun! You killed him too fast! But tell me, did you savor his death? Did you relish the sight of hope fading from the mongrel's eyes? Did you-" "Enough!" I shouted, cutting off Caries' psychopathic ramblings. Puritas was stable enough, but Caries was an embodiment of pure chaos. The first time I summoned him, I had been scared that he would turn on me without warning. It had yet to happen, but I didn't want to push it. "Puritas, Caries, you're dismissed." As the pair vanished, Caries left with one final comment. "A bit more of this, and we'll be completely identical! I can't wait!" When they were gone, I ponered that last comment. What did he mean? Setting the matter aside, I turned to Cam's body. His death meant there were only Para and Savathun left. The thought gave me some measure of relief. It was almost over. I just hoped Ghost could deliver on his end of the plan. Now, there was one thing left to do. Placing my hand on Cam's armor, I drained the last dregs of his power into me. I needed all the strength I could get in order to be prepared for the fight ahead. *Hours pass* Location: Dreadnaught, Savathun's throne. Para's POV. As I woke up from my nightmares, I tried to figure out how I had fallen asleep. It all came rushing back. Waiting for Cam to return, everything was going smoothly until I was rocked by a mental blast of fury and rage. Realizing what this meant, I broke down sobbing, the pain of losing another friend too great to bear. I must have fallen asleep at some point, but I was awake now, and I had one goal in mind: Kill Ian. I would find him, and I would make him pay for the deaths of Sara and Cam. As it turned out, I didn't have to go far. He was outside of Savathun's throne area, at the end of a long corridor. My blood boiled at the sight of him. It took all of my willpower, but I drew Redeemer and waited. These would be his last moments.
