Yup. For a social game, Bungie tries everything in their power to not make this game too social.
This game really needs in-game LFG, tower chat, planetary chat, OPTIONAL (let's emphasize that) matchmaking for activities like nightfall, trials and why not raids?
Let people try and succeed or fail. But let them at least try.

This! I couldn't agree more with this post. Four years into this franchise and Bungie still hasn't figured this out. Absolutely criminal.

Outside of very shallow, childish, apparently still stuck in that high school group mentality beliefs that being in a group entitles you to better stuff, there's only one reason to be against OPTIONAL matchmaking. The dev time it takes to implement it. And that has to be minimal, there's already matchmaking on heroic strikes. I can picture Luke Smith sitting in a meeting where someone brings up Nightfall matchmaking and him just going "nope, it's end game." And the guy retorting "but it's easier than the heroic strikes." And then Luke putting his hands over his ears going "lalalalallalalala can't hear you!" I think Nightfall is supposed to be endgame, but the hot water they got in by forcing DLC purchases to use it has turned it into a level 270 joke. But really, even prestige isn't incredibly hard. Ran dozens going for the specific loot without mics no problem. The raid, I'm more reserved on this having matchmaking. I can see getting stuck with that green 6th guy every single time and the guy with the five below gaming mic. Trials, if you want to get stomped why do the sweats care? Just more easy early matches for them.

I wish they had what warframe has. A simple window in the corner, for chat trade or LFG.
-
I was going to mention that myself. It's quite handy.

I remember in D1 when they added matchmaking to the nightfall. Worst idea ever. All I ever got was idiots who didn’t know what they were doing, and I lost the option to solo the nightfall. So it actually made it harder to do it! Because now I couldn’t do it solo, or find just 1 friend and 2-man it. Now I had to find 3 friends just to avoid having idiots with us. The matchmaking actually made it harder for me to find enough people to do the nightfall. Matchmaking is not something Destiny needs, nor should it have it.
-
NF never had matchmaking in D1.
-
I don't remember D1 ever having matchmaking for nightfalls.
-
I think he's confusing the nightfall with the weekly heroic strike.
-
Nightfalls had matchmaking?

-
Maybe ...far as i remember and i played d1 since week 1 nightfalls did not have mm

Okay, once again, because apparently I wasn't clear enough, even though I wrote it in caps. Here we go: OPTIONAL MATCHMAKING. That means you have the OPTION to find people through matchmaking. You are not in any way obliged to play the nightfall with randoms. You can still play it alone or with your friends. Jesus %@^$%$@ Christ.

Guided games is not what people were looking for.
-
They did that, and it wasn’t optional. It’s apparently beyond Bungie to manage that. But if that’s what you want, then you already have it. Guided Games and the forums are both places to match make. You just have to use them.
-
The only problem with your post, D1 never had matchmaking. For nightfalls.
-
As long as Bungie doesn't dumb down raids because the matchmade fireteams can't get it done, optional matchmaking is fine. But soon, oh how they would whine. "This one guy isn't doing anything and we can't keep going" "I got kicked for no reason :C" "This guy keeps throwing the raid encounters and wipes us" Not to mention that they'd have to implement a system that remembers your raid progress and only drops you into groups at that same checkpoint. Bitching would be soon to follow here as well: "Bungie, your game is shit, I have to wait forever to get matched, and I'm not even gonna acknowledge that that's because nobody is at that checkpoint, it's definitely your fault" I've seen enough matchmade activities in other games to see what's gonna happen. But hey, as long as raids don't suffer even more from it, why not. Might make for some funny failtages.
-
If people make use of optional matchmaking they should STFU if it is too hard. That's the risk of matchmaking.
-
-
They could have a majority vote thing like in the division to kick people that are not playing or being d-bags, it would totally be better than going on lfg and being like, “oh I can’t join them, my kd ain’t high enough, can’t join them I don’t have the required weapons” and so on
-
Yeah but here's the thing: There's SO much shit to consider and so many new avenues for whiners to flak Bungie if they got even the tiniest thing about the matchmaking wrong. All that isn't necessary if people just took the time to type the following into the LFG website: LFM Spire of Stars, know strat [or blind if you actually wanna run blind], be [minimum Light for raid or a bit higher] Light, first time run. That's all people need. Do trust. But that is asking too much somehow.
-
Yeah but wen ya buy a multiplayer game u kinda expect all multiplayer content to be accessible in game, otherwise make it clear from day 1 that only some of the games features are in the game and charge us accordingly
-
They did, and they did. Everyone knew Destiny 2 would have raids, and everyone knew they would work just like D1 raids. Same with Nightfalls. They then charged you $60, as that was the same price people paid for D1, and they were happy with that price. So they DID tell you, and they DID charge you appropriately.
-
But destiny is a multiplayer game, why is there no matchmaking for trials, nightfall and raid? Regardless of what was in d1, d1 should have had it too, it didn’t and that was wrong. The reason they did it again in d2 is because the fanboys and lfg elitists are happy with bungie shafting them and giving them a half assed game, the rest of us just ain’t that easily pleased and expect the full package
-
I prefer it the way it is now because I can chose who I matchmake with. It isn’t up to chance if I have idiots, absolute gods, under leveled or over leveled people. I get to choose the circumstance of my experience, and I would rather it stayed that way.
-
So why would it bother u if 6 idiots got teamed up via in game matchmaking? Who is it affecting if they can’t get the raid done or whatever? Too many people feel the need to stop other people having fun for no reason whatsoever, this is why the bungie community will always be divided
