GRAPHICS RUNTIME DETECTED A CRASH OR LOSS OF DEVICE

Ok I really need help, so basically for the past 2-3 hours I have been trying to fix the "Freeze and Crash" issue with my computer but nothing seems to be working, you name it I've tried it, it hasn't worked... So basically I really need someone who has had this problem and knows how to fix it or just someone who knows how to fix it (some details:) started happening 3 days ago and gradually got worse until I couldn't even be in orbit for more than a minute, I've rolled back my driver, I've reinstalled destiny, I've checked for corrupt files, I've deleted the CVAR files, I've scanned the destiny folders for repairs, I've tried different regions, I've tried switching and tuning my settings to low and high, and probably more that I don't remember... PLEASE HELP!

  • What solved my issue with this error was setting my Memory Clock and Core Clock settings in MSI Afterburner to 0. I had forgotten that I had overclocked my GPU. As soon as I set them to 0, no more crashes. Also, Precision X, just having it loaded would cause the same issue.

  • It's 02/21/2021. I have had this issue since Beyond Light DLC was downloaded. I have a thread showing all the Troubleshooting I've done. NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK! And its not just Destiny. RAGE 2, Destroy All Humans and Borderlands 3. Older games such as Doom and Witcher 3: Wild Hunt don't have a problem. This is my thread. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/257694118?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=1

  • I had the same issues as your having. But I found some things that could possibly help any other users coming to seek help. - So if you're using NVidia, open the "NVidia Control Panel" and go to Manage 3D Settings - set ALL of those to the base by clicking restore. Don't worry, you can change these afterward. - THEN go to the GeForce Experience (if you haven't downloaded it that's fine, I would for consistencies' sake.) and go to Destiny 2 (or any game) and look at the settings. - Find the little tool icon next to the revert button and click on it - Change your resolution and screen type to windowed and the next smallest screen size you can. - If all else FAILS, the try and reinstalling drivers and have steam run through files to check for corruption.

      I know this is an old thread, but for someone searching for help; this may be it. Destiny doesn't like Precision X OC and will cause freezing at the beginning of loading screens and also randomly. It's best to just use MSi Afterburner for fan curves and OCs if you want to keep the application open for monitoring as well. I was also getting the "Graphics runtime detected a crash or loss of device" error when I installed my rtx 2080 and played for 15 minutes. My mistake was using a single PCIE cable (8 and 6 pin) to power the GPU. Using 1 PCIE cable for the GPU resulted in crashes, stuttering, and FPS dips from 120 to 17-20fps for 3-5 seconds at a time. By using 2 cables, this helped with voltage stability and remedied all FPS issues I was experiencing. I'm running: 8700K (4.5ghz OC) RTX 2080 Gaming OC (+100 on core and +1K on memory) powered with a Corsair RM850x V2 P.S. I had removed all overclocking prior to using a second cable and was still getting stuttering and dips, but the crashing had stopped.

      • Just started to play on PC had the same issue. Recently had a problem with another game doing like a green screen strobe effect only when i was in fullscreen. Found a fix for us Nvidia users: -1. Go to NVIDIA control panel -2. Select Change Resolution (under display) -3. Make sure your primary Monitor is selected (the one your games are played on) -4. Scroll to the bottom and click Use NVIDIA color settings -5. Click apply Should do the trick, worked for me.. Cheers

        • So to sum it up for you guys it is likely a malfunctioning GPU it turns out that’s what it was for me. To test this I tried playing some other steam games like CS:GO (I would recommend doing this with another platform) and let it run for a while. No popups showed up after crashing however the same random boxes on my screen were there, and I could no longer play any games without it crashing within 5-10mins. I ended up getting a new GPU and it works completely fine now. Tell me how this works?

          • Did you ever fix this? I almost constantly get this error and this is the only post I found about it.

            • I too am having the same exact problem. It started yesterday so i thought id update my Nvidia drivers. Well that made it worse and now game is unplayable. It started with always crashing when going to Traveler, but now it crashes all the time can't even get in 15 minutes without a crash. ============================================================================= stack: 00000001402CE2FF <unknown> 00000001402CD68A <unknown> 00000001402C93C2 <unknown> 0000000140C7E8B4 <unknown> 0000000140B552F4 <unknown> 0000000140B9E85D <unknown> 0000000140B85D37 <unknown> 0000000140BFF640 <unknown> 0000000140BB5564 <unknown> 0000000140BB92C9 <unknown> 0000000140B281AD <unknown> 0000000140B41DB8 <unknown> 000000014039F3A3 <unknown> 00000001402E3024 <unknown> 00000001402E09B6 <unknown> 00000001402E3284 <unknown> 000000014031E643 <unknown> 000000014031E6E6 <unknown> 00000000775059CD <unknown> 000000007766383D <unknown> session_id: Mon_05142018_103335_001480@x64@350149148@5E_87_94_96_1B_F1_B470 halt: RELEASE_VHALT halt information: Graphics: device lost or removed. fatal error detected, current status was: init: init.txt version: d2_rc tiger_final release pc_x64 64136.18.04.25.1910.d2_rc 18.04.25 1910 session_id: Mon_05142018_103335_001480@x64@350149148@5E_87_94_96_1B_F1_B470 GPU Device: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 GPU VendorId: 4318 GPU DeviceId: 4489 GPU SubSysId: 645412930 GPU Revision: 161 silo_id: 1665943536962656256 signon_server_reported_content_version: none reported authority-over-current-bubble: false - map slice set 'HASH(0x1ec20202)':6, activity slice set 48 authority-over-domain: false world_controller state: activity:in_world environment_string: D2_ProdRetail:132 install type: 5 change-world: loaded strike_lute game_instance: 000000005046BAE4 game_is_playback: false activity_tier: e_activity_tier.one activity-slice-set-index: 48 map-slice-set-index: 6 in-public-bubble: false AH active workspace: <no active workspace> activity_host_fireteam_is_connected: yes activity_host_last_fireteam_session_id: Tue_05082018_070646_020956@x64@game_svc_lp$@N07SH07SRV012 activity: strike_lute activity_host_group_target_is_connected: no activity_host_group_target_session_id: Fri_05112018_151204_071604@x64@game_svc_lp$@N07SH07SRV033 activity_host_group_current_is_connected: no activity_host_last_group_current_session_id: Fri_05112018_151204_071604@x64@game_svc_lp$@N07SH07SRV033 NVIDIA Aftermath: [1] [1] shading_pass (13) system_milliseconds: time 7085069 timezone_seconds_offset_from_UTC: 21600 is_current_bubble_authority: false crash_folder_location: C:\Users\Dad\AppData\Local\Temp\Destiny 2\crash_folder\pc_x64\crash_folder_1480_20180514_110838\ primary_bap_server_ip_address: 172.97.58.83 primary_bap_server_port: 7501 world_controller_state_manager status: activity:in_world (goal:002:activity:in_world) player_position_x: -932.852417 player_position_y: -994.915344 player_position_z: -211.992813 ============================================================================ THIS is the ERROR that it ALWAYS gives : Graphics: device lost or removed.
