“Damn...”. Cain would say softly to himself. If the group was subjected to moving up the mountain his plan would not work. It was a head on mission, that was all he could think of. However...
“Men! Hold position for a moment!” He commanded. “They have established a very defensive position upon the mountain range. I can only see one path from here leading to it. However, I believe there should be another path leading up to the same position. So, I will take Thirty men with me rather then twenty, and we will move up the main path. In the meanwhile, the other thirty must find the second path AS FAST AS THEY CAN. If no path is found, quickly make your way back to the main path and act as reinforcements! Note that the forest is a perfect place to ambush us, so be on your guard! Let’s move soldiers!” Cain would tell everyone. The group would split off as he commanded, and Cain and his group A would make their way to the main mountain path, reaching the woods to do so.

As the first half of the group traversed through the darkened woods, another fireball soured over their heads, slamming into another portion of the encampment. All seemed silent on their end, as they faced no resistance, while Group B had been searching for a pathway up the mountain.
You take care of group B now.
Cain forged on with his men until they would reach the mountains, immediately looking to the start of the mountain path.
Kk.
The main pathway up the mountain was rocky, tight, and narrowed to a terribly small passage, though one would manage still. Cain could now see where the fireballs were coming from - high upon the mountain, though too high to see the siege weapons themselves. Group B was making progress though, as they hadn't returned just yet.

Cain would look to the cliff face, observing it. He had too many men to climb with him... Oh. But he had an idea. “Travyens. This path is a death trap of those siege weapons aim down on us. So...I have an idea. While the rest of you make the way up the path, I will climb the cliff face. Hopefully I will cause enough commotion to keep eyes off you, allowing you all to back stab the tribune and beat them at their own game. How does that sound?” He asked his soldiers.

"That works for us, sir." One of the officers spoke up, as the rest of the infantry troops would nod. Some were terrified, others trying to keep calm. But they would push forward, no matter what.
