Do You Like Civilization, And If So Where Did You Start?

I started on civ 3 when it was first new. I was around 13 then. Oddly enough my Mom saw it in the game store and thought it would be educational. I didn't play it at first, but once I started I was hooked. I had the special edition that came in a sexy metal tin, and had a paper fold out of the tech trees. That edition was also very bugged, which made it loads of fun. If you asked for a billion plus gold per turn from any world lead, and demanded that they give it, they would. Then you could precede to hurry the production of anything and everything. Civ 3 is still fun, and has a special place in my heart, but overall civ 4 is my alll time favorite. Religions, efficient unit stacking, and an intuitive world builder made it a blast every game I played. Civ 5 was ok, but I couldn't get past the lack of unit stacking. That literally shattered my preferred play strategy of amassing a hord, and conquering other civs en mass. In any case, I don't usually hang out here in gaming, but I'm flying from China back to the US right now and I've got a long trip (and hopefully a lot of civ time) ahead of me. I'd love to chat with some fellow civ addicts... Lol. Has anyone given the new civ 6 a try? I've heard some good things but I dont know...

I started in Civ 1 back in the 90’s and was instantly hooked. Played all of them as they came out except for 4. I didn’t have a PC that was able to run it, and once I did upgrade hardware 5 was out. This game is still on of my favorites to date. Never playing the same game twice is awesome. I love coming up with different play styles and “role playing” as the leader. Take over the world? Play as an isolationist? Be the protector and only start wars against aggressors. One of the only changes over the years that I didn’t like was how focused you have (have is to strong of a word) to become to go for different victories. I miss the days of adapting as I go and choosing my winning path in the late game. I feel now as if you have to pick your general focus the moment you settle your first city. The addition of resources of the years has been one of my favorite additions to the game, not to mention all the quality of life interface changes. I like the added level of trade that it offers. I like how it effects your land grab city placement in the early stages, and I like how the resources give you a goal for limited wars. I’m looking forward to see what happens to this franchise in the future.
