His vision must have been more impaired than he'd been inclined to believe, because when he slashed down, his sword bit only into open air. The Initiate was gone, vanished into the wind. /// Seconds Earlier The flashbangs rolled to either side of Genral. Adrenaline fueling a stretching of his time perception, he did three things: First, he'd shut his visor off, cancelling the blinding affect, though he could still hear and suffered the deafening ringing from the twin grenades. Second, he'd blown up the motion sensor mini-map onto his HUD. Third and finally, he activated his suits reflections systems, rendering him imperceptible to normal, thermal, and x-ray vision. /// As Zane made the approach, he watched the motion on the mini-map, careful to skirt around the tree, back flat against, as Zane began to round it. Now, he stepped out, still invisible, and leveled the handgun's barrel to the back of Zane's head, a mere inch-and-a-half of space separating the two surfaces. Without a word, sound, or other acknowledgement, he loosed six explosive rounds at the back of his opponents head.

  • Zane had felt that he had missed, and was about to pay for it. The shots that impacted against the back of his helmet confirmed that, denting and cracking while causing him to stagger forward. "Cheeky bastard...." He saw the barrel of the gun as he turned around, charging and slashing with his gunblade.

  • The barrel soon vanished, the active camo once more retaking the whole of Genral's persons, rendering him as a distortion within the air, the only tell of his location. Part by part, it began to assemble once more a solid mirror, the distortion becoming less pronounced and the Initiate disappearing once more. Or at least, he would have been, if his disruption of the reflective sequence hadn't continued. As Zane slashed wildly, he moved like liquid, the Initiate attempted a sliding in his step around the attack and coming up to his opponents chest. His left arm wrapped Zane's right, his sword arm, at the elbow and gripped it tightly between his forearm, bicep, and chest. The right arm of Genral, which held his handgun, tried to shoot up to jab Zane under the chin, loosing the final explosive round in the magazine at point blank range before clicking the release, shooting out the empty mag into the exposed throat region of the man.

  • Zane felt the General grabble onto him, and saw the uncloaking of the gun. He saw where it was aimed, and raised his free hand to block the shot, the ward forming and suspending the round in place along with the ejected mag. "You shouldn't have done that, cause now I know where you are." He dropped the ward, the round and empty mag falling to the ground. His training kicked in, and he kicked the General's leg out from under him while grabbing ahold of the arm that was wrapped around his own. Electricity crackled from his hand, and he sent the discharge into his opponent before slamming him to the ground, breaking free.

  • As Zane blocked the bullet with his ward, Genral's instincts kicked in, his torso twisting, sliding his hold from the elbow to near the end of the forearm, his trigger finger sliding out from its position in the metal loop and laying on the barrel, from where he slapped the gun against Zane's chest in an attempt to push the man lo the left and down, effectively trying to throw him to the floor. When Zane grabbed his own forearm, Genral received the full force of the electric discharge, letting go of Zane as he was launched back. His years before, during, and after his gaining as an Initiate took over then, allowing him to toughen out the worst of it, though his movements were notably stiffer as he did a backwards somersault, rolling onto one knee and throwing his head up to watch his opponent, even as he reloaded the Rock.

  • Zane had extended his arm outward, his palm landing on the grass. He flipped back upward, drawing his elemental .44 and letting loose 2 quick shots.

  • The two shots flew towards emptying air, Genral having dove for cover after reloading. Despite his best attempts, though, the back of his right arm at the bicep was hit, soliciting a grunt of pain from him as the reflection matrix began to reconfigure itself whilst he pressed his back to the tree, handgun raised to ready in the uninjured hand.

The generals cloak was giving him trouble, so he brought out a smoke grenade to allow him to cloak. He tossed the smoke onto the ground, cloaking and quickly moving from cover to cover. "Alfred, think you can hack his suit?" I can try sir, just a moment.
Up to you on weather your suit gets hacked.
• When the grenades rolled out, Genral couldn't help but chuckle at the repeated maneuver. Seeing smoke issuing from the one, and the other doing little in terms of obvious intent of harm, he made a split second decision and shot the EMP grenade with an explosive round before it could go off. Unfortunately, in choosing unknowingly to leave his electronic systems functioning, he'd exposed the suit to Alfred's hackers shenanigans. The AI made some headway before it was repelled, causing the Initiate to curse as his motion-sensor mini-map fizzed out before reappearing showing fifty-two enemies all around. This was the extent to which the AI could go, though, finding each system protected by firewalls that grew smarter with each successive one it took down, becoming aware of the digital attack.

His system is scrambled sir, now would be the best time to attack. He's located 15 meters to your right. Zane saw a red dot show up on his radar, his suit homing in on the general's location. The hack was not only an attempt to disrupt his suit, but to plant a virus. One that would expose his location and try to slow down his system. "Got it, good work Alfred." Zane leapt down from his hiding place and charged at the general, slashing downward and aiming for his chest.

  • Genral did something peculiar in response. Dropping to one knee and twisting as the sword fell, allowing the blade to land on his well-armored thigh. As he'd suspected, the blow was a heavy one, managing even to break through his armor and cut into his leg some. Grunting, completely aware that this blow would spell his doom if not handled well. Reaching up, he attempted to pull in Zane by his chest armor with his free left hand, the arm also forming a block over Zane's own arms as a trap whilst he jabbed the right hand, holding the handgun, up into the man's throat, loosing all seven shots of the magazine into his throat, where the armor was weakest, the Initiate assumed.

  • Zanes armor glowed blue as he shield finally managed to recharge, protecting him from the barrage of bullets that would have cracked his helmet. Just in time it would seem, your shields have been restored sir. Although they are just about to break again. I suggest breaking free. Zane let out a light sigh, it seemed that his own AI was quite the smartass. "Alfred, activate the personal defense system." Very good sir, a wise decision. Zane's armor crackled with electricity, and started to flow into his opponent. The sword wound started to glow, and Zane tried to break free of the grapple.

  • The pain caused his body to go rigid, the tensing locking the blade in place and causing his hold on Zane's forearms to strengthen. Now, Genral's mind was essentially gone, his actions determined by pure instinct and muscle-memory in tandem. Throwing his arm out to the right, dropping his gun, sparks shot out, golden in color. A circle formed of electricity from the sparks, filling out into an electric disc. Sticking his hand through, arm stretching to its full extent. A tensing of the arm told the man that he'd grabbed something. With a battle-cry of rage, he drew out a longsword, electricity running along it, and chopped in an arc down to Zane's neck with its edge vibrating at super-sonic speeds, bolts of electricity running along it, onto both Zane and Genral.

  • Right before the blade landed on his neck, the electrical current mixed with the explosive compound in the generals leg, detonating and sending the two warriors flying in separate directions. Zane's shield protected him from the blast, but shattered in the process. The wind was knocked out of him as his back slammed against a tree, and he nearly slumped to the ground.

  • The leg was gone, blown off in the opposite direction. Genral lost the sword to, the blade lodging firmly in a tree not far from the initial explosion. Genral rolled in the dirt some distance, but the pain was nothing, his kind already separated. In this state, he would fight until either dead or rendered unable to fight. Propping up onto his elbows, he slid the Staff off of his back, aiming for the dazed Zane, and loosing six shots, four for the chest, one for the neck, and one for the head.

Zane's hand raised as soon as the gun was raised, his ward forming and holding the shots in limbo. His natural reflexes kicking in and allowing him safety from the shots. Oh dear, that was rather close wouldn't you say? "No kidding. Good thing I kept up on my training when I was a kid. Anyway, let's continue." The rounds that were caught by the ward shot back out at his opponent, and he dropped the ward to fire off 3 .357 hollow point rounds of his own.

  • Genral rolled swiftly, two of the rounds slamming into the tree behind and to the left of him, another flying off into the distant expanse. The last bullet, however, found a home in the Initiate's right shoulder. Without uttering a word or releasing a single sound, Genral doggedly fired the rest of his clip at Zane, the fight less an optional tourney and more a rugged duty to the man by this point. The .357 rounds sailed around him, some landing, others not. It mattered little to Genral. His armor was effective in blocking most, but some managed to slip past and strike him hard.

  • The rounds tore into his armor as he ducked into cover, damaging some of his systems. Wood splintered from the tree he was hiding behind, imbedding itself into the ground. "Damn, it's just like when we fought JJ....gonna have to end this somehow...." He decided to toss out multiple smoke grenades, covering the arena with a think fog. Zane could hardly see himself, but luckily his tracker was still active, along with the virus that Alfred had planted. He leapt up into the trees, hopping from limb to limb until he was behind his opponent. He quickly took out his rifle and fired a grenade.

  • The grenade detonated as had been expected, but the tracker remained locked in spot. The virus was gone, either wiped out, or falling subject to something else. As the smoke cleared, the ground was empty, the earth blasted apart where the grenade had exploded, covering the otherwise green grass with dark dirt. Either the Initiate had teleported, or he'd gone invisible again, ditching the tracker. Zane would have to inspect it himself.

  • Sir, it seems his suit managed to clean out the bug I planted. I can't seem to lock on to his location. "Damn, this doesn't feel right...." He contemplated just setting the whole arena ablaze with his thermal destroyers, but that would probably backfire somehow. Instead, he decided to stay hidden in his smoke, and wait for his opponent to make a move.

  • Silence pervaded the grove, Zane's comments the last noise to be made other than the quiet whistle of the wind, the subtle rustle of the branches. As the smoke cleared away, Zane was left on his branch surveying an empty blast area. Left, that is, until three thermobaric rounds exploded out of the barrel of the Staff from below him, striking the branch beneath Zane. On contact, the bullets erupted in a pressure wave, causing the branch to crack and explode from that alone, but then a miniature-fire-bomb went off in the same space, erupting Zane in searing heat. The process occurred for every round, bringing cacophonous noise and possibly deafening Zane as a sort of pseudo-flashbang.

  • Luckily for Zane, his armor and cloak were very resistant to fire. He fell to the ground from the branch breaking, his vision blurred from the concussive blast. He chose to close his eyes and relax, relying on his training to sense out his opponent. He raised his blade, ready to counter any hit.

  • He focused on the origin of the sound, filtering out unnecessary noise. He heard the breathing of his opponent, and started to home in on it. "Almost got you...."
